Last season, Jaxson Dart had hoped to do a lot more than just finish 4-13. That is why he is now about to learn from former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.

The 63-year-old joined the New York Giants with a specific requirement that the franchise allow him to have power over roster decisions and other aspects of their overall football performance.

He is not replacing the much-criticized GM Joe Schoen. But he will use his experience to help the team land prime draft prospects, as well as free agents.

However, to get everything working in unison, he also has to bring the best out of the current squad. After Jaxson Dart impressed last season, fans wondered if Harbaugh loves him as much.

What I witnessed was the first install, which is the very first example of how we are going to build the offense… It was fun to see offense up on the screen and Jaxson, right there, taking his notes. That was awesome… That’s a good start.

John Harbaugh told reporters

The Super Bowl XLVII-winning head coach was initially talking about how his sophomore quarterback was using the latest technology, whereas he was stuck with old-school tools.

Then Harbaugh mentioned that Jaxson Dart was attentive in the offensive and quarterback meetings. Taking notes on the first day impressed the longtime head coach, as that is not what players generally do on the first day they are back with their teams.

No matter how good a leap Jaxson Dart takes, it is important that the New York Giants give him weapons. Otherwise, he will continue to risk his own health the way he was doing in his rookie season.

John Harbaugh has made it clear that he wants to work on improving the offensive line, which is why Peter Schrager has the Miami Hurricanes’ offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa going to the Big Apple with the fifth-overall pick.

But Dart also needs teammates who can run the ball and also catch it down the field. On that note, reporters asked the Ohio native about the recovery timeline of Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers.

Skat is probably going to be ahead of Malik… It wouldn’t be fair for me to give you days… Malik is going to be more towards into training camp and closer to the season.

John Harbaugh replied

This means the hard-running halfback will be back faster than expected, which is remarkable considering the gruesome injury he suffered last season.

But ACL tears take more time. With that sort of injury generally taking eight months to a year, the Giants are not expecting Malik Nabers until later this year.

Even though those players will be back sometime down the line, the Giants were in for a rude awakening when star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence requested a trade after being unhappy with not getting a contract that reflects his contributions.

The prospects are going to be high…We want Dexter here, I believe Dexter wants to be here. But there’s business involved.

John Harbaugh said

This is the head coach’s response when asked if he expects the three-time Pro Bowler to continue being a member of the New York Giants. Even though it may cost them a pretty penny, losing Lawrence will be a huge blow to their defense.

Several mock drafts also predict that the franchise might pick pass rushers with their fifth pick. If their big nose tackle leaves, then the need for defensive reinforcements will increase exponentially.
