As soon as the Baltimore Ravens fired John Harbaugh, the New York Giants sprang into action to try to lure the longtime head coach to join and lead a team featuring young QB Jaxson Dart.

They were looking for the right candidate to take over after they first fired Brian Daboll midseason, and then saw interim head coach Mike Kafka finish the season with two straight wins.

Those wins, though, were not good enough to keep Kafka in the mix, and instead, they continued to look for someone who could change their culture.

Lo-and-behold, when John Harbaugh appeared on the horizon, both GM Joe Schoen and owner John Mara sprinted towards the 63-year-old and handed him his contract before anyone else could.

Other than a reported salary of $20 million per season and the leverage to influence roster decisions, one of the primary motivations the Super Bowl-winning coach has is to work with a young quarterback.

The quarterback’s kind of important… I’m excited about Jaxson Dart… You build your team around your QB… I like the way he plays, I like his talent, skill set, all of the things he has accomplished. More than that, I like who he is and what he is about. To me, it’s about football. This young guy loves football.

John Harbaugh told reporters

The Ohio native said this at his inaugural press conference as the head coach of the New York Giants. It seems he is excited by the chance of working with a QB in Jaxson Dart, who lives and breathes football.

When John Harbaugh was available as a free agent head coach, any team pursuing him knew that he would be an instant lock to become a future Super Bowl champion.

I know the challenges, I understand the expectations, I know the fans are hungry for a winner. We’re here with one mission. To earn the right to be called the World Champions in New York.

John Harbaugh said in his opening statement

This was the former safety’s opening statement, reminding New York Giants fans and the media that his goal is to turn the franchise around to become potential champions down the line.

Harbaugh understands that the city’s fans have been begging for a championship. Except for the WNBA’s New York Liberty, the rest of the city’s sports franchises have been in a title drought spanning decades.

It will be a task, but the new head coach has a good mix of young and established veterans on the team. All he needs now is to find a good set of assistants to help his vision come true.

John Harbaugh sends out rallying cry to potential free agents

As with any NFL team, the New York Giants, too, would be facing a tough offseason where they will be looking to sign players who can help the team take the next step toward their goal.

We have to have guys that love football… If you love football, you’re going to want to be here.

John Harbaugh said

This was the new head coach’s rallying cry to potential free agents looking to play winning football. In the past, the Giants have struggled to land top free agents, as instances such as the Saquon Barkley debacle have left the league with a sour taste in its mouth.

John Harbaugh wants to change the culture, and with his reputation, he hopes some of the best available free agents come forward with an intention to play for the Giants. After finishing 4-13 this season, the franchise will need a lot of help to start consistently winning games.
