John Harbaugh was without a team for just over ten days. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Harbaugh and the New York Giants are working on making him the next head coach. Barring any setbacks, Giants fans can look forward to him coaching Jaxson Dart and Malik Nabers in 2026.
Harbaugh was on the radar of several NFL teams, including the Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, and Atlanta Falcons. The 63-year-old met with the representatives of both clubs. In the end, he decided to move to the Big Apple instead of anywhere else.
Schefter reported that the Giants and Harbaugh’s agent are close to finalizing a contract to make him the next head coach of the Royal Blues. The Giants landed their guy because they were the most aggressive in their pursuit.
No team was more aggressive than the Giants in pursuing John Harbaugh, who visited their facility Wednesday. He left without a deal that still is being finalized but is expect d to get done shortly. https://t.co/VXqcB0UiMH

Hours before Schefter’s tweet, Dan Graziano and New York media’s Jordan Raanan reported that Harbaugh traveled to Giants HQ in New Jersey. He had a productive meeting with the Giants’ bosses, joined by rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. Harbaugh left for Baltimore right after the meeting.

But Jaxson Dart made an appearance at today's meeting. A good selling point for the Giants. https://t.co/WadNKksBYC
Fans believe John Harbaugh will unlock Jaxson Dart and Malik Nabers full potential
Working with a young group of players, especially Dart, was the biggest selling point for Harbaugh. The Giants finished 4-13, but Dart was by far the best player on the offense. He finished with 2272 yards, 24 total touchdowns, and 5 interceptions in 14 starts.

Dart isn’t the only exciting talent who has been waiting for the right coach. Nabers, the sixth overall pick in the 2024 draft, made a big splash in the NFL with 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and 7 touchdowns in his rookie season. The LSU graduate spent last season on the injured reserve due to an ACL tear. Before the injury, he still managed 18 receptions, 271 yards, and 2 touchdowns.
Harbaugh helped Lamar Jackson establish himself as one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in football. Fans are hoping that he will have a similar influence on Dart.
Jaxson Dart might win MVP next year wow

Respect to the Mara family and Tisch. They’ve caught a lot of heat recently but they knew the assignment and they delivered. John Harbaugh is a great football coach. The expectation and the standard has risen. Build around Jaxson Dart and let’s do the damn thing. The time is now. https://t.co/qJMoYEts8i

Great job. Have the QB, the WR, the RB, the pass rush. Eager to see if he can restore the Giants to a contender.

A source told Conner Hughes of SNY New York,
He’s [John Harbaugh] a program builder. He sets the tone for the entire building. Team-first. Tough. Detail-driven. He loves ball. He cares about people.
“He’s a program builder,” a league source who worked closely with Harbaugh told SNY. “He sets the tone for the entire building. Team-first. Tough. Detail-driven.

The Ravens fired Harbaugh after they missed out on playoff qualification on the final day of the season. His 17-year run included multiple playoff appearances and a Super Bowl victory in 2012 with Joe Flacco as the quarterback of the Ravens. Harbaugh had a 180-113 win/loss record (.614) in Baltimore.
