Toyota’s John Hunter Nemechek came into the 2025 NASCAR Cup season with the hopes of having a strong season and redeeming himself from the rookie season from 2020. The 2024 season didn’t go as planned for the JHN, as he was able to secure with just four top-10 finishes, with the Legacy Motor Club cars not being competitive enough.
Recently John Hunter Nemechek released a video on his YouTube channel rating his 2024 season with LMC. He recalled the time; he almost won the Daytona 500 and only for bad luck to ruin his race. Despite getting spun by Kyle Larson, he had a shot at win, with good momentum supporting him coming to the white flag.
He then pointed out that he had his TRD teammate Ty Gibbs behind him, who could have given him the push to get upfront, making the race three wide. But that’s when he realized he has no friends on the track and ended up losing the momentum, finishing P7.
John Hunter Nemechek explains how crew chief change affected him in 2024
In the same video, JHN also talked about how the late changes to Legacy MC affected his performance late in the season. His crew chief was changed with the No:43 team and this in consistency affected his performance.
The points from John Hunter Nemechek seems reasonable, but can nit excuse the dim performance he had later in the season. He will have his opportunity to prove his worth in 2025 and he should, as if he can’t perform better next season, he might not have a seat in the top tier for the future.
