John Mara refuses to let Brian Daboll, Joe Schoen go in 2025 too irrespective of Giants’ performance this season

John Mara has faith in his head coach and general manager to lead this team to the Super Bowl.

The New York Giants are 2-5 this season and sit comfortably at the bottom of the NFC East, yet the team’s ownership is not feeling a sense of urgency to make any drastic changes. John Mara is convinced that his head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen deserve some more time to produce results.

As reported by ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, John Mara is not going to be making any changes to the New York Giants’ coaching hierarchy or hiring a new general manager.

Obviously, we’re all very disappointed with where we are right now, but I’m going to say one thing: We are not making any changes this season and I do not anticipate making any changes in the offseason either.

John Mara said

Mara made it clear that Daboll and Schoen’s jobs are safe for the foreseeable future. This was right after he was at the premier of The Duke: Wellington Mara’s Giant Life, a biopic about his father’s contributions to the game of football.

Mara is not happy with the position the Giants find themselves in but at the same time, he believes it is premature to fire his head coach or general manager at this stage. If the Giants are not willing to part ways with their Brian Daboll or Joe Schoen, then does it mean that the team is looking to make significant roster changes? If that is indeed the case, then the first name on their underperforming list would be quarterback Daniel Jones.

John Mara is attempting to exercise more patience before making drastic decisions about the Giants’ team dynamic

His take is surprising considering it comes a few days after the Philadelphia Eagles and former Giants’ running back Saquon Barkley dominated them at MetLife Stadium. So far this season, the Giants have struggled offensively. The team has scored just one touchdown on its home field in four games this season. Danny Dimes is on the track to having his name changed to Danny Pennies after having thrown for 1,442 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions this season.

The Giants rank 28th in the NFL in terms of total offense as per FOX Sports. The team is averaging 290.7 yards per game. It is clear that a big change is required for the Giants to be able to turn their fates around, however, it will not be coming in 2025.

There is one silver lining in this entire fiasco for fans of the team. John Mara is a strategic man, he is not going to throw his general manager and head coach under the bus in the middle of the season. He publicly supported previous GM and HC Jerry Reese and Ben McAdoo in 2017 but fired them shortly after. There could be a repeat of this situation.

However, this is an unlikely scenario considering Mara’s subsequent comments. The biopic on his father struck an emotional cord. John Mara is now attempting to be patient with his decisions.

I think I try to be more patient than maybe I’ve been in recent years. He (His father) was patient. He preached that all the time and I’ve probably been guilty of not being patient enough in recent years, and that’s one of the reasons I’m committed to Joe and Brian and giving them a chance to turn this thing around.

John Mara added

It is understandable why Mara would resort to believing that his HC and GM deserve some more time under the sun. They did make the playoffs in 2022 but since that point forward, it has gone downhill for the organization.

Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending injury last year. This season, he has not been able to perform on par with the sum he is being paid. With the departure of Saquon Barkley, the Giants will need to figure out another way to spearhead their offense. It will be interesting to see if New York can turn it around anytime soon.
