John McEnroe expresses the desire to adopt this generation’s ‘Bad Boy’ Nick Kyrgios to help him win
During an October 25, 2022 interview with Sunrise, Prominent American former tennis player John McEnroe heaped praises upon Nick Kyrgios for his outstanding performance in recent times at US Open 2022. As per the former player himself, Nick has an immense amount of talent when it comes to crushing any opponent while going head-on. However, he was not capitalizing on it before and that’s precisely why he believes he can help Nick grab his next big win.
For the uninitiated, John McEnroe is considered one of the greatest tennis players in the history of the sport. He glittered the tennis world with his remarkable skills on the court. The American phenomenon was considered to be a total entertainer, and his rivalries with Jimmy Connors and Bjorn Borg used to be one of the major highlights of the tennis community.
Praising Nick for his impeccable performance, John noted, “He’s the guy I’m compared to the most, and he’s the guy who right now if he’s dedicated for the next two years, could do some really good things in tennis (…) C his is the example of the hospital that mocks charity.”
The American held the World No.1 ranking in both singles and doubles during his playing days, making him the only male tennis player to achieve this grand feat. He won a total of 155 ATP titles with 77 ATP singles titles and 78 ATP doubles titles. This is a record for any player in the sport’s history since the start of the Open Era. Thus, the great American can help Mr. Kyrgios a great deal.
“I myself have been involved in all sorts of things, so who am I to tell him what to do? I do it more as someone who sees him as someone who is really good at the game and who wants to, in a way, raise him as one of my own children,” Continuing his train of thought, Mr. McEnroe further added.
Moreover, Mr. McEnroe won the Grand Slams singles title seven times and the doubles title nine times. He also won the French Open 1977 mixed doubles title and even helped the USA win the Davis Cup title five times. He was the captain of Team World, which won the Laver Cup for the first time in 2022.
With that being said, such cheerful comments, and that too from the tennis legend himself must have boosted the confidence of Nick Kyrgios as he is looking to make the 2023 ATP season count, boasting his professional career to another level.

Nick Kyrgios is all set to take over the Australian Open 2023
Nick Kyrgios is one of the most popular tennis players on the ATP tour. He had a terrific season this year as he won the Washington Open ATP 500 tournament singles title and reached the Wimbledon final this year, eventually losing to none other than tennis phenomenon Novak Djokovic.
He also won 3 doubles titles with fellow Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis, which includes the prestigious Australian Open doubles title, making it the first Grand Slam title of his career. He last participated in the Japan Open Tennis Championship where he lost to American Taylor Fritz in the quarter-final round.
In 2021, many positive changes have been seen in the 27-year-old. He has positively become much calmer and is also helping to groom the younger lot with the big challenges coming ahead. Earlier, Australian legend Wally Masur also praised Kyrgios’ fundamentally changed temperament.
With that being said, it will be pretty interesting to see how the current World No.20 can keep himself calm and concentrate on the matches so that he can finally win his first Grand Slam singles title. He might probably give the best performance of his life at the upcoming Australian Open in 2023. Surely, he would love to repeat his last year’s heroic moves with Thanasi Kokkinakis.
