Philadelphia Flyers coach John Tortorella was not a happy man after his team lost in overtime against the Boston Bruins. The angry head coach sounded off on the Bruins players for ‘diving’ during this game and ripped the referees for their officiating in this loss.

During the game on Saturday night at the TD Garden in Boston, several Flyers players were assessed penalties for tripping their opponents. A total of eight penalties were given against his team during this matchup by the officials.

The 66-year-old coach did not like the calls from the officials. He felt there was a case of clear embellishment from Bruins players.

In the press conference after the match, he started off the presser and boldly claimed that one thing he taught his players not to do is to ‘dive‘. He thus indirectly accused the Bruins stars of diving. Tortorella added that after this match, he should probably start teaching them that during the practice sessions.

Let me start. One thing I teach my team to do is not dive. Maybe I should start teaching them that. The way this has gone here, the way this s**t goes on, maybe I should start teaching them how to dive. It’s one of the things we talk about most as a team, we gotta play an honest game. There’s no cheating. There’s no embarrassing referees. You don’t embarrass the referees. The (expletive) that went on here tonight is just ridiculous.

This is not the first time where Tortorella has sounded off on the officials and players. The American international has been fined several times by the NHL for his outspoken words.

John Tortorella reflects on Flyers surrendering two-goal leads in game against the Bruins

In a fierce clash at the TD Garden, the Philadelphia Flyers were unable to close out the Boston Bruins. Twice in the game, the visitors had a two-goal lead. On both occasions, they surrendered that lead. Despite this, John Tortorella did not seem unpleased with the fight from his team.

The Flyers found themselves 2-0 up as rookie winger Matvei Michkov scored twice in the first period. While Trent Frederic pulled one back for the hosts, the Flyers extended their lead to 3-1 with a goal from Cam York.

The Bruins came out flying in the third period. Frederic scored again before captain Brad Marchand levelled it up at 3-3. Pavel Zacha then won the game for the home team in overtime as he slammed home the puck from close range after a pass from David Pastrnak.

Reacting to his team’s performance in the third period, Tortorella did not seem too unhappy. Perhaps the coach was too focused on the officiating in the game.

It’s never a question with me about our fight. That’s a given within our room here. So, that’s what keeps us afloat. That’s the only way we’re going to stay afloat in this league is that is the will and not willing to give it.

After three successive wins, the Flyers have now lost two games on the bounce. This mixed run of form has left them with a 12-11-4 record. They would hope to get back to winning ways in their next game against the Utah Hockey Club.
