The latest episode of SmackDown featured #DIY fully turning heel to win the WWE Tag Team Championship. During their title match, Johnny Gargano hit a low blow on Chris Sabin while Tommaso Ciampa distracted the referee. Alex Shelley was so blown away by this that he completely stopped fighting and climbed down the turnbuckle to talk to his friend on the opposing team.

However, the former NXT Tag Team Champions showed no mercy and ended the match with their prize in their hand. Johnny Gargano broke his silence on X after shockingly turning heel against his friends on the latest episode of SmackDown. He also posted a photo of #DIY seeming elated after becoming 2x WWE Tag Team Champions.

The team wasn’t even supposed to have a title match that night. However, they tricked everyone not only to get that opportunity but also to capitalize on it successfully. Earlier in the night, The Street Profits were attacked backstage out of nowhere. Nick Aldis informed the Motor City Machine Guns that they would not have their scheduled title match for the night.

Gargano conveniently showed up at the scene and said that DIY would be willing to step in as a replacement. The SmackDown GM was hesitant at first but gave the green light after the champions agreed to it.

The challengers then turned fully heel and became WWE Tag Team Champions once again. Last week’s episode of SmackDown featured a segment where Ciampa went off on Gargano and gave him an ultimatum. It appears that the latter finally caved in to join the dark side.

Will Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa defend their WWE Tag Team Championship in a triple threat at Saturday Night’s Main Event?

WWE has promised that the upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event will be a throwback to the past, complete with retro graphics, old music, and even some appearances by industry legends. However, one of the fondest parts of wrestling from the older generation is still missing from the show: tag team wrestling.

Neither of the Tag Titles has been featured outside of weekly programming since WrestleMania, and this may be the perfect place to start. However, with the World Tag Team Championship scene being so stagnant and Finn Balor already having a match for that night, the WWE Tag Team Championship may be the only option.

With the event only a week away, the promotion does not have time to do much story building here either. #DIY was likely the ones behind the attack on The Street Profits, who will soon be looking for revenge.

Furthermore, the Motor City Machine Guns feel betrayed by the current champions and will be looking to regain their titles. This would be a perfect recipe for a triple-threat match to take place next Saturday.
