The Gaudreau family recently shared how they were missing Johnny and Matthew during the Super Bowl LIX. Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudreau’s mother Jane revealed that the Philadelphia Eagles were their favorite team and seeing them win would have made them very happy.

The Super Bowl LIX concluded with the Eagles taking the crown from the Kansas City Chiefs with a 40-22 score. Jane talked about how “crazy excited” the brothers would have been if not for that unfortunate accident.

Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were killed just a night before their sister’s wedding in an accident. They passed away on August 29, last year after a car hit them while biking in New Jersey.

The Gaudreau brothers were struck by Sean Higgins who is now being prosecuted and likely to be held 15 years behind prison for each on two counts of aggravated manslaughter. The charges were heavily considered as he left the scene of the accident.

Furthermore, Higgins was drunk during the incident with .087% BAC. However, later it was revealed that the Gaudreau brothers were also under the influence with a higger BAC than Higgins.

I know two very happy @Eagles fans in heaven! For us, it’s a little bittersweet as we would have loved to have been watching with them and seeing how crazy excited they were but I’m going with the belief they were in our family room watching with us! Miss you guys so much!

Since the Garden State does not consider bicycles as motor vehicles, they were not prosecuted under charges. Johnny’s BAC at that time was 0.129% while Matthew had a 0.134% reading.

Johnny Gaudreau’s dad joins practice before 4Nations game

Despite the grief of losing two NHL stars, Johhny Gaudreau and Matthew Gaudreau, the hockey world is keeping their memory fresh. Before the 4Nations whistled on, Guy Gaudreau took on the ice to help the team practice.

Defenseman Noah Hanifin, who played with both the Gaudreau brothers, said that it was “special” to have their dad Guy with them for dinner and practice. Team USA made sure the Gaudreau’s were also part of the event and even had Johnny’s jersey hanging in the locker room.

We had a big, full-staff dinner, I thought it was important that he was there. Johnny and Matthew were a big part of USA Hockey and a tremendous loss. They’re with us in spirit. I just think it was important that Guy was there.

Team USA’s dinner party included absolute legends like Mike Eruzione and Rob McLanahan of the 1980 Miracle on Ice team, Mike Modano, and Guy Gaudreau. The team staff and coaches were also a big part of the celebration.
