Triathlete Jolien Vermeylen blasts Olympic Games officials for not properly checking River Seine’s protocols and forcing athletes to swim in “dirty” water. The triathlete competition took quite the spotlight as two of the athletes fell sick during the race.

When asked what it was like to swim in the Seine, Vermeylen labeled it as a “dirty experience”. She said that she saw things underneath which are best not known to the public. The athlete was even worried for her health noting how much water she took during swimming.

However, Jolien Vermeylen claimed that there was something wrong with the translation. She said it was not reported and conveyed properly. Her comments apparently failed to convey the “light” and “humor” of the mood.

Felt and saw things that we shouldn’t think about. We’ll know tomorrow if I’m sick or not…It doesn’t taste like Coca-Cola or Sprite, of course.

She even stated that the person who translated her comments to English from her native language “invented new words” that “made me angry”. CBS News later reported that the amount of E. Coli in the Seine River was 10 times more than the acceptable level.

“Ran out of a bit of steam” Tyler Mislawchuk vomits 10 times during Olympic race

Other than Jolien Vermeylen, triathlete Tyler Mislawchuk also suffered during the race. Although the reasons may have been different, and despite his confession of the cause, many thought it was due to swimming in the Seine.

Mislawchuk vomited 10 times after crossing over the River Seine at the Paris Olympic Games. He, who finished in the 9th position, claimed that it was due to the heat and not due to the water. While racing for the finals, he began to fade but was happy that he gave the race all he had.

At my last Olympics there was the injury and with all the stuff that happened there was a lot of ‘what ifs. I have no ‘what ifs’ on the day, I went for it, it was absolutely everything. I vomited 10 times after the race … it got hot in the last laps.

Tyler Mislawchuk instead blamed the weather for puking mid-race as he’s accustomed to cooler climates. He said that since he’s from Oak Bluff, Winnipeg, where the temperature is usually -50 Celsius in winter, he couldn’t stand the heat of the Summer Olympics.
