Holding grudges against someone in the workplace isn’t something unheard of. Especially in the business of pro wrestling, the larger-than-life characters ooze towering egos. Not all, but there are some exceptions. So is the case of Jonathan Coachman and reigning WWE Women’s Champion, Nia Jax. In the latest edition of his podcast, Coach was joined by former WWE lead writer, Vince Russo.
Speaking on Behind the Turnbuckle, they reviewed this past weekend’s Survivor Series: WarGames. But most importantly, Coachman dove into his second stint with WWE which was nothing short of tumultuous. Having joined the Raw commentary team in January 2018, the 51-year-old was taken off the table by September of that year. Renee Paquette, who’s currently in AEW, replaced him back then.
But why was Coach’s stay on Raw’s com desk merely a sojourn? The answer could be Nia Jax holding something against him. When Coachman’s golf events started hampering his WWE dates, Vince McMahon was furious about it. But he had previously alerted McMahon of the same.
As a result, the company started working on Jon’s successor on commentary. That was coupled with Jax’s abomination for Coachman. Although he still doesn’t know why Nia hated him, she led the charge for his removal, claimed the former ESPN analyst. In addition, The Irresistible Force advocated for the then-Renee Young to take over.
Jon added that he didn’t have any ill will for Young and said that she’s terrific at what she does. Another personality who couldn’t stand The Coach during this time was Corey Graves. In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Jon affirmed that he tried to make it work, but Graves wasn’t willing to follow suit.
Fans didn’t like Nia Jax’s approach inside the WarGames match
Nia Jax didn’t have the best of outings with her performance in the women’s WarGames match at Survivor Series. She kicked off the proceedings with Bayley as they continued mugging each other for five minutes.
The entire bout came and went, but it just didn’t click for most of the fans. Jax’s tardiness and fake-looking maneuvers ensued trolling on social media. It could’ve gone south for her, but the 40-year-old replied to a fan on X saying she loves evoking emotions from her critics.
Apart from that subpar effort inside the cage on Saturday, Jax has had a memorable year. She won the Queen of the Ring crown overseas in Saudi Arabia and followed it up by dethroning Bayley for the women’s title at SummerSlam. Since then, the Sydney-born wrestler has been in a league of her own.
