Jon Jones has finally returned to training after months of recovery. The UFC heavyweight champion shared an Instagram photo of himself back in the gym. This marked a significant milestone in his rehabilitation from a pectoral injury. Jones had sustained the terrifying injury while preparing for his anticipated showdown with Stipe Miocic at UFC 295.
The image of Jones training has undoubtedly ignited excitement among MMA fans. They eagerly await his comeback to the octagon. He last won an impressive victory over Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 last March. Despite the lengthy absence, the UFC has refrained from stripping Jones of the heavyweight title. The UFC did, however, crown an interim champion.
Jones was also a top priority to headline UFC 300 earlier this month. He wisely declined the fight due to his ongoing recovery process. However, his recent return to training has reignited speculation about his imminent comeback. This will mark his return against Stipe Miocic, a fight even Dana White refused to let go of.
Jones, at 36, has etched his name in MMA history as a legend. The undisputed two-division champion is regarded as the prime candidate for the GOAT status. However, his recent years have been marred with infrequent fights and personal challenges. Jones continues his journey back to the octagon. One thing is certain: Jon Jones’ return to training means the fight date is not long behind.
Jon Jones defends his ‘legacy match’ against Stipe Miocic
Jon Jones recently found himself in a social media storm. Jones reiterated his intention to fight the 41-year-old Stipe Miocic. This had fans questioning the wisdom of such a bout. But Jones, never one to back down from a challenge, has staunchly defended his decision.
In a flurry of tweets, Jon Jones fired back at critics. He dismissed claims that facing a 41-year-old Miocic would do nothing for his legacy. He asserted that this fight would be Miocic’s greatest career fight. Jones felt uncomfortable taking that from the former heavyweight champion.
Yeah, screw the biggest fight of his [Stipe Miocic] life and all the money him and his family were supposed to make. Let’s just bump him out of the way, yeah that’s how life works.

However, not everyone was convinced by Jones’ reasoning. Some fans suggested that he avoided a tougher opponent in Tom Aspinall. The interim champion Aspinall himself had called out Jones multiple times. However, the champion remained steadfast in his eagerness to fight Miocic. With Jones back in the gym, it’s only a matter of time before he and Stipe share the Octagon. Maybe fight fans would then finally get to witness the bout between Jones and Tom Aspinall.
