Not just fight, he won against all of them. The former champ single-handedly dominated the whole decade.
Jon Jones holds the record of most title defenses (14) and could have continued to make the figure go further. However, the former champ insisted to move up to heavyweight to find a new challenge. The man has it all and now finds something worth fighting for. Thus, the UFC Heavyweight Championship.
Jon Jones is the GOAT: Dana White
In a recent interview with ESPN, Dana White picked Jon Jones as the greatest of all time in MMA. Dana picked the former Light Heavyweight Champion unhesitantly, saying “there’s no debate” when it comes to Bones’ certified GOAT status. Jon Jones holds the record of most title defenses (14) and dominated the last decade without losing a single fight in his whole career.
UFC President also feels that “Bones” would have been more successful if he would not have attached himself to the controversies in the last few years. The only fight in Jones’ career where he got snatched away with the win was when he failed the drug test in his title fight with Daniel Cormier. The failed drug tests, alcohol issue, hit-and-run incident are some of the major run-ins of Jones with the law.
Due to these, many don’t consider Jones as the GOAT. However, it is worth to note that Bones has never been submitted and is yet to face a KO loss. His only loss on paper came in the Ultimate Fighter 10 finale where he was disqualified under the 12-6 elbow rule.
After Dana’s statements, MMA fans took to social media to show their discomfort of White not including the likes of George St. Pierre, Conor McGregor and Daniel Cormier in the list.
What’s next for Jon Jones-
After a spat with UFC President Dana White over pay in May 2020, Jones vacated the Light Heavyweight Championship. Jones was targeting a fight with heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou and according to White, wanted “Deontay Wilder money”, referring to Wilder’s reported $25-30 million earnings in his rematch with Tyson Fury held in February 2020. On August 15, 2020, Jones announced on social media that he would be relinquishing his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.
Jones last defended his light heavyweight belt against Dominick Reyes and won via unanimous decision. Currently, Jones is preparing to move to heavyweight and is in the process of getting ready.
