MMA GOAT candidate Jon Jones is currently scheduled to defend his UFC heavyweight title for the first time at UFC 307. The fight will take place at the iconic Madison Square Garden against the heavyweight GOAT, Stipe Miocic. The hype around the fight is huge and unsurprisingly Jones has found himself in sort of a controversy.

Jones is focusing all of his efforts on his title defense. With only 45 days until the match, the American fighter recently shared a new physique image. Jones looked jacked in the photo, far better than he did in his first heavyweight fight. This has aroused some concerns about Jones perhaps using steroids again. Since then, Jones has taken to X and questioned his critics.

They were just calling me fat, now I’m on steroids. I love it.

Jones is no stranger to criticism and is frequently mocked by fight fans on the internet. One of the most prominent narratives against Jones is his refusal to fight Tom Aspinall for the heavyweight title unification contest. According to many, Jones ducked the young and hungry Aspinall and deliberately chose to boost his resume by fighting Miocic.

Jon Jones has demonstrated sensitivity by directly confronting fans of X who have questioned his legacy. He is among the few fighters who actively communicate with the fans. However, the bigger criticism that has followed Jones throughout his career is his history of failed drug tests. As a result, it is somewhat justified that the fans are doubting his recent physical transformation.

Jon Jones tainted past with PED usage

Jon Jones has experienced several problems with USADA and PEDs. He was given a one-year suspension in 2016 for using illegal substances, which he said were caused by a contaminated pill. Following UFC 214 in 2017, he tested positive for Turinabol, leading to a 15-month suspension. Subsequently, traces of the steroid kept showing up in his tests; this was explained by the ‘pulsing’ impact from previous use

Earlier this year, Jones got into a legal situation over alleged hostility towards drug representatives. One of the agents filed a police report alleging that the heavyweight champion was violent towards her. Jones contested the charges, and the court ruled him not guilty of them. However, he had to abide by certain limitations, such as no alcohol and no ownership of guns.

Regardless of his achievements, these acts have tainted Jones’ career and permanently altered his reputation as one of the best fighters in history. Jon Jones has announced that he might retire from UFC after his fight at UFC 307, and fans are waiting to see him in action for one last time.
