- Jon Jones publicly challenged Dana White after being dismissed from the White House card.
- Dana White confirmed Jones' retirement due to arthritis and lack of reliability for major events.
- The strained relationship between Jones and White contrasts with their previously close association in the UFC.
Jon Jones is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous fighters in UFC history. His dominance in the Octagon and commanding persona made him a formidable figure. That persona was on full display recently as he publicly challenged Dana White. This comes after the UFC CEO dismissed his chances of appearing on the White House card and confirmed he should now be considered officially retired.
Jones last competed at UFC 309, where he defeated Stipe Miocic. After that win, he vacated his heavyweight title and officially retired from active competition. However, he quickly reversed that decision following confirmation of the UFC White House event. Despite the change, White publicly stated that Jones was not dependable enough to be on the card because of his past refusal to fight Tom Aspinall.
White recently addressed rumors about Jon Jones being snubbed from the White House card. He stated that no negotiations had taken place and confirmed that Jones had retired due to arthritis problems. Jones responded strongly, publicly calling out the UFC CEO for the first time. He claimed they were in negotiations, questioned the UFC’s credibility, and stated that White’s comments were completely inaccurate.
I’ll be the fall guy. If I would prove (White) wrong, would I be wrong? Or would I be the bigger man by remaining silent?

Jones was reportedly willing to cross all boundaries to secure a spot at the White House event. However, White repeatedly reinforced that he could not rely on Jones as a dependable choice for such a major card. White also referenced Jones’ prior fight delays and extended periods of inactivity. These factors, combined with the importance of the event, contributed to the promotion’s final decision to snub ‘Bones’.
What is surprising is that three-time UFC champion Alex Pereira is on the White House card, taking on Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight title. Jones and Pereira were widely discussed as potentially staging the biggest and most anticipated fight of this generation by many in the MMA community. Both fighters had also publicly expressed a strong interest in facing each other at the June 14th event.
The strained relationship between Jon Jones and Dana White is surprising, given their previously close association. White had consistently called Jones one of the greatest fighters of all time and praised his achievements in two divisions. He also defended the former two-division champion on multiple occasions. Despite their history, the White House card proceeded without Jones, confirming his retirement.
Daniel Cormier details why he slapped Jon Jones during their UFC 178 face-off
Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier shared one of the most intense rivalries in UFC history. Their feud began long before their first meeting, with heated exchanges at promotional events. They first fought at UFC 182 in January 2015, where Jones won a unanimous decision. They met again at UFC 214 in July 2017, where Jones scored a knockout win which was later changed to a no‑contest after a positive test.

Jones and Cormier were slated to fight at UFC 178 before Jones withdrew due to a torn meniscus. Prior to the injury, a promotional faceoff escalated into a major brawl, and both fell from the stage. The fight was later held at UFC 182, where Jones won by unanimous decision. Their rivalry resurfaced recently during filming of the ALF MMA reality show, where both are opposing team coaches.
He headbutted me, I slapped his face. Him and his manager, they double teamed me. When we fell off the stage, the UFC grabbed me, he falls, and his manager kicks me. This dirty cheat.

While much of the recent back-and-forth appears lighthearted, Jones and DC have remained at each other’s throats online for years. Cormier was vocal about wanting Jon Jones at the White House event because of his American heritage. Despite their rocky relationship, both fighters continue to hold iconic status in the UFC. Their achievements solidify them as two of the sport’s most celebrated athletes.
