The main event of AEW Revolution featured the World Championship match between Jon Moxley and Cope (Adam Copeland). Prior to this, fans had grown frustrated with The Death Riders storyline. Despite the criticism, Moxley and Cope worked at a slow, methodical pace. Moreover, this match also involved Christian Cage’s official Casino Gauntlet cash-in, turning this into a triple threat bout.
After Wheeler Yuta and Jay White interfered, Cope gained the upper hand against Moxley. The Rated-R Superstar delivered three Spears to the champion. As he was closing in on the win, a masked figure pulled the referee out of the ring. It was none other than Cope’s former friend, who signed the contract right there. While many expected Cage to win, the former Shield member emerged victorious by choking him out.
Unfortunately, this marked the second consecutive underwhelming ending to AEW PPV. Since the inception of The Death Riders faction, fans have witnessed repetitive finishes and segments on weekly television. Additionally, Moxley carrying the AEW World Title in a briefcase has not helped in enhancing the storyline.
Why do you have Christian cash in and then have Jon Moxley choke him out next to Cope?

Doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. #AEWRevolution pic.twitter.com/8W5a1jcu3t
Following his win last night, Jon Moxley will now shift focus to the new #1 contender, Swerve Strickland. The latter earned his shot at the top prize after defeating Ricochet earlier in the night. In fact, Strickland launched a sneak attack on Mox following the main event. The 34-year-old stood tall to close AEW Revolution, perhaps signaling a positive direction. The duo will most likely face off for the title at the next PPV, Dynasty.
AEW fans express frustration at Jon Moxley retaining title at Revolution
The Death Riders storyline has cast a dark cloud over AEW for months now. Fans are visibly unhappy and did not hold back from expressing their thoughts on the Revolution main event. Users online were so frustrated that they labeled this match as one of the worst in the company’s history.

Many believe that AEW ‘fumbled’ by not pulling the trigger on crowning a new World Champion, whether it be Adam Copeland or Christian Cage. Other users claimed that this was a way to build to a future bout between the two former WWE Tag Team Champions.

Great freaking question.

I was hoping it was to be Cage.
Tired of Mox
Because Mox is able to retain and look strong without directly beating Cope and making him look weak. I get why they did it but having Christian’s contract storyline end like that after months of buildup is so disappointing

Had a feeling this would be what’d they do. What a bummer after a fantastic show

Seems it always happens to aew fantastic ppv followed by a horrible ending

It wasn’t great but it’ll be swerve to beat Jon so there’s that.

You can say that edge was never pinned and mox ain’t beat him. So then you can revisit this rivalry later on.

Regardless, fans lambasted the main event match for spoiling what was otherwise a brilliant show. Moreover, a few pointed out it had been a recurring theme for the promotion since The Death Riders storyline had begun. To no surprise, most fans are hoping that Swerve Strickland will put an end to Moxley’s reign soon.
