LIV Golf star Jon Rahm made a shocking decision recently. The two-time major champion decided to drop out of the DP World Tour season finale in Dubai despite being clear to participate in the event.
The 29-year-old caused a massive stir last December when he became the latest big name to leave the PGA Tour and join LIV Golf. Following his move to the 54-hole circuit, several fines and sanctions were imposed on him.
As per reports from GolfMagic, a DP World Tour spokesperson confirmed that he will not be participating in the season finale. The three-time DP World Tour Championship winner will not tee off this week on the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
Rahm was eligible to play in this event as a result of being inside the top 50 in the DP World Tour Rankings. The Spanish golfer had also snubbed the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship after finishing 38th in the standings of the first DP World Tour Playoffs event.

Rahm needs to play in four DP World Tour events to maintain his membership with the European circuit. He would take part in the Olympics, the Spanish Open, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, and the Andalucia Masters this year, which preserves his status.
A potential reason for this snub from Rahm could be due to the birth of his first daughter in September. In a social media post, he would share images of his newborn daughter and his wife.
So blessed to have welcomed our daughter Alaia Cahill Rahm into the world last week. Mama and baby girl are both healthy and doing great, I can't wait to get back home to them. pic.twitter.com/iRJOdfSarj

Following the birth of his daughter, he would make an appearance at his national Open in Madrid. He would fall just short of the victory as he lost in the playoff round to Angel Hidalgo.
Will Jon Rahm’s absence from DP World Tour events affect his chances at the 2025 Ryder Cup selection?
One of the major questions since Jon Rahm‘s move to LIV Golf has been regarding his participation in the 2025 Ryder Cup. The Spaniard was part of Team Europe’s success in 2023 in Rome. Following his recent snubs from DP World Tour events, many wonder whether this will affect his chances of making it to the 2025 edition.
One of the biggest criteria for being eligible for Team Europe is that the golfer must be an active DP World Tour member. Unlike Sergio Garcia and some other European golfers, Rahm had not resigned from his membership.
On top of that, he has even played in four events on the European circuit, the minimum number required to maintain the membership. His four appearances mean that Rahm will maintain his membership for at least another year.
Rahm could either automatically qualify for the event now due to his DP World Tour rankings or could be selected as a captain’s pick by Luke Donald. The former World No.1 had previously refused to pay the fines imposed by the DP World Tour but later appealed the fines, which allowed him to participate in the Madrid Open.
??❌ JUST IN: Jon Rahm says he’s refusing to pay his DP World Tour fines as penalty for playing LIV events but the Spaniard says he intends to play 3 upcoming DPWT tournaments including the Spanish Open with the goal of making the Ryder Cup team.

The 2025 Ryder Cup event will take place at the Bethpage Course in New York in October next year. While Donald will return as captain for Team Europe, Team USA has announced Keegan Bradley, who missed out on the event due to a captain’s pick last time, will lead the contingent as captain.
