Former World No.1 Jon Rahm has gone back-to-back as the LIV Golf individual champion. Despite having a winless season this year, the 2-time major champion won the LIV Golf individual championship on points ahead of Joaquin Niemann.

This is something that has not sat well with the fans. This is because, unlike Rahm, Niemann won 5 times on the LIV Golf circuit this year and led the standings until the final day of the LIV Golf Indianapolis event.

Rahm, who finished T2 in the first event of the 2025 season in Riyadh, managed to claim 12 top-10 finishes in 13 events. The only event he finished outside the top-10 was LIV Golf Dallas where he came T11th.

The Spanish golfer had been consistent, though. He picked up 3 runner-up finishes in the last 4 events. Meanwhile, Niemann finished T23 in Andalucia, won in the United Kingdom, finished T7 in Chicago, and came T4 in Indianapolis this week.

Rahm’s final day charge in Indianapolis saw him edge ahead of the Chilean golfer. With 10 birdies and 1 bogey, the Legion XIII captain shot a score of 11-under 60 on Sunday. This saw him finish tied with Sebastian Munoz for first place. He eventually ended up losing in the playoff round to Munoz and concluded the season without any wins.

However, with his performance this weekend, Rahm finished with 226.16 points. Niemann, on the other hand, finished with 223.68 points despite his 5 wins and lost the individual championship title to Rahm. Third place finish went to Bryson DeChambeau, who finished with 144.74 points.

While speaking with the reporters after this title win, Rahm claimed that it did not feel great to end the season with 2 playoff losses. However, the golfer claimed that he was ‘proud‘ to take home the individual crown.

It’s a great moment, but it just doesn’t feel great to finish the year losing two playoffs… I’m sure over time I’ll get over that, and I’ll really appreciate what I’ve done this year. To be able to win the season without actually winning a tournament, I know I’ll be proud of that.

Jon Rahm told the reporters

Niemann would also comment on the matter of losing the title on the last day. The Torque GC captain admitted that it was hard to “swallow” this defeat.

It’s kind of hard to swallow. But at the end of the day, I think it is what it is. I feel like it’s going to put something inside me to kind of work harder and try to be in this situation again next year and make it different.

Joaquin Niemann told the reporters

Rahm’s individual title wins see him take an $18 million bonus home. It has also sparked discussions regarding him being a wild-card pick by captain Luke Donald for Team Europe at the 2025 Ryder Cup. He is currently ranked 23rd in the standings due to his ties with LIV Golf and is dependent on Donald to make the team this year.
