Emma Raducanu crashed out of three tournaments without making it to the fourth round. She was scheduled to play the ASB Classic to kick-start her campaign of the 2025 season, but a niggle forced her to withdraw.

Raducanu then advanced to the third round of the Australian Open for the first time but was no match for World No.2 Iga Swiatek. The 22-year-old then faced two back-to-back first-round exits in the Singapore Tennis Open and the Abu Dhabi Open.

But Sky Sports tennis commentator Jonathan Overend, in spite of Raducanu’s mediocre performances, has backed her to win Grand Slam tournaments. Overend, however, is convinced that to produce Grand Slam-winning performances, she needs to keep injuries at a distance.

What we do know is that when she is fit and in form, she has that Grand Slam-winning performance in her. She will turn up to Grand Slams in the future and get close to winning it, I have no doubt about that.

Jonathan Overend told Tennis365

Overend thinks Raducanu is one of those players who can ‘blow hot and cold across tournaments and swings.’ The British tennis ace, last year, produced an impressive performance on the grass swing, reaching the semifinals of the Nottingham Open, the quarterfinals of Eastbourne International, and the fourth round of Wimbledon.

After her heartbreaking exit from the 2024 US Open first round, Raducanu suffered from a foot niggle during the Korea Open owing to which, she was forced to withdraw from the rest of the events on the Asian swing. To work on her fitness, Raducanu hired renowned fitness coach Yutaka Nakamura last year.

Everybody will call balls and strikes on how Emma does. Over reaction on steroids. When the person calling shots thinks out of the box with somebody who understands how to stimulate confidence change perspective and mindset the results and top ten is on the horizon. She has the talent. If not the sun will Set the same way and lose Sets.

Raducanu currently stands at No.56 in the ranking which is way better than last year’s. She was outside of the top 300 but thanks to her performance on the grass swing, she came back to top 60 in spite of playing less than 15 tournaments.

She was last seen in action at the Abu Dhabi Open where she suffered a 6-3, 6-4 defeat to Marketa Vondrousova. It’s uncertain whether she will play the Qatar Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships, the two back-to-back WTA 1000 tournaments of the Middle East Swing, as she can’t get a direct entry because of her ranking.
