In psychological circles, the Michelangelo Phenomenon suggests that couples gradually begin to adopt each other’s traits over time. It appears this phenomenon has made its way to the NFL, as Chicago Bears’ Jonathan Owens delivered a near-perfect impression reminiscent of his wife Simone Biles.

During the Chicago Bears game on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, Jonathan Owens aced a significant play by forcing a fumble, successfully taking the ball from Aaron Jones. To celebrate the forced fumble, the 29-year-old NFL safety, ran into the end zone, where he delivered a gymnastics-style salute, joined by his teammates.

The celebrated gymnast was present on the sidelines to cheer on her husband whom she met on a dating app called Raya. Owens played for the Houston Texans during the time, close to Biles’ training facility. They reportedly hit it off on their first date itself, stating that they felt an instant connection. The duo tied the knot last year, and started building their first home a couple of months back.

The couple turned up the cuteness level ahead of the game as well. The NFL star and the Olympic gymnast shared a kiss on the sidelines before the game. While Owens was clad in his game jersey, Biles was all fashionista on the sides.

Biles stepped up in a stylish look, wearing a denim bomber jacket adorned with a navy “36” patch on the back, paired with matching light-wash jeans. She completed the ensemble with Gucci sunglasses and a navy handbag featuring a matching “36” patch. Owens wears the number 36 jersey for the Bears.

The eleven-time Olympic medalist cheered gleefully to her husband’s antics, waving at him from the stands. Later, she also took to Instagram Stories to react to the tribute reposting the video with a trio of white heart emojis. However, the game result didn’t go in Chicago’s favor as they suffered their seventh loss of the season.

Simone Biles made headlines in August with her salute commotion

In the individual balance beam event final of the Paris 2024, Biles was penalized 0.3 points for not properly saluting the judges. The penalty sparked backlash among gymnastics fans, many of whom believed her salute was sufficient.

However, the penalty didn’t cost her the medal as Biles finished 0.9 points behind the bronze medalist Manila Esposito of Italy. On the other hand, a costly fall off the beam had resulted in a whole-point deduction.

A video of Biles’ beam routine showed her briefly raising her hands in an apparent salute after dismounting but lowering them quickly as she turned to the judges. Simone Biles, despite stating not being bothered about the penalty, met petty with petty through an extended salute in the latter part of the day.

During the floor exercise final, Biles held her arms in the air while facing the judges for several seconds. She even continued the gesture as she exited the floor.

Jonathan Owens who made it to almost all days of Biles’ competition, quipped on X praising his wife’s act of rebellion. “Making sure they don’t miss it this time!” her husband, Jonathan Owens, tweeted on X.

Biles’ coach Cecile Landi had explained that the extended salute was a deliberate effort to avoid another deduction. Biles placed second behind Brazil’s Rebecca Andrade in a highly controversial event of the entire Olympics.
