It has been quite a while since Jonathan Toews hit the ice field. The former Chicago Blackhawks captain has not played in an NHL game since the 2022-23 season.

Toews has been out of action while recovering from COVID-19 and chronic immune response syndrome. He has now aiming to make a shock return to the league.

In a recent interview with GQ, the 36-year-old expressed his desire to make a shocking comeback to the NHL. Toews mentioned that he does not feel like his career in the NHL is done just yet.

There’s a part of me that really doesn’t feel like my career is over yet, and who knows what this next part of the journey looks like, as far as getting back on the ice and trying to make a return to the NHL. There’s never any guarantees in life, but I’m going to give it my best shot. I’m going to enjoy every step of the way.

Following the expiration of his contract at the end of the 2022-23 season, he become a free agent. He would not sign with any team and in August 2023 announced that he was taking a break from the game.

Jonathan Toews opens up about his treatment in India

Since taking a break from the league, many were wondering what was going on with Jonathan Toews. Recently, the 3-time Stanley Cup champion shared an update regarding his health. On Instagram, the forward mentioned that he had been undergoing Ayurvedic Panchakarma detox in Kerala, India.

During the interview with GQ, the Canadian international opened up about his treatment in India. The forward mention that he had digestive issues. He was thus advised to change his diet and was then suggested to travel to India for the Ayurvedic treatment.

At first, he would laugh at the suggestion of going to the South Asian country but eventually made up his mind and decided to get this treatment. Toews added that he would be waken up at 4:30 in the morning and had several yoga sessions. He would receive massage treatment and saw a huge transformation in himself in the first two weeks.

I’d be in the bathroom all afternoon, like 1 to 4, 2 to 5 pm. I literally lost 20 pounds in the first two weeks because it was just so much. It’s kind of crazy. You see people go through some crazy transformations the first couple weeks.

Toews has also claimed that he will continue this practice in the US and Canada in his daily life. Speaking about his future in the NHL, only time will tell whether he will actually return to the ice rink.
