After beating the Indianapolis Colts, the Minnesota Vikings are 6-2, the same number of wins as divisional rivals the Detroit Lions, but also lost one extra game. A major chunk of the credit goes to seventh-year quarterback Sam Darnold, who came in primarily as the backup to Kirk Cousins.
Cousins left for Atlanta ahead of the season commencement, and CFP winner rookie quarterback JJ McCarthy ended up in rehab after tearing his ACL even before taking a snap. So, Kevin O’Connell had no other choice but to elevate Darnold to the No. 1 spot.
Even though he hasn’t been clean, Darnold produced enough for the Vikings to keep winning games. Yet, it’s impossible to place everybody, especially the family members of the receivers.
Second-year receiver Jordan Addison’s campaign has been complete 180 from his first year in Minnesota. In 2023, he was competing with the likes of CJ Stroud, Puka Nacua, and Zay Flowers for the Offensive Rookie of the Season award, but this time he has barely scraped by. Before the Vikings’ fixture against the Colts on Sunday he only caught 14 passes for 231 yards and one score in five games (Addison missed weeks two and three).
The game at US Bank Stadium started slowly. It took until the seventh minute for the game to come alive, which unfortunately began with a Sam Darnold interception. Darnold evaded the Colts’ pass rush and went looking for an open receiver but ended up throwing straight to the Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin inside the endzone.

The Sam Darnold-Jordan Addison connection secured Vikings victory over the Colts
Addison Senior made a valid point as his son was free just ahead of the first down line, but Darnold missed him. The game raged on, and Darnold more than made up for his mistake by throwing a couple of touchdowns to Josh Oliver and Jalen Nailor.
However, the Vikings’ dominance started with the Darnold-Addison connection. The 27-year-old from first and goal on third down checked right and hit Addison, who dived to his left to finish off a 70-yard drive that included nine plays. It was Addison’s second touchdown of the season.

Addison finished the game with five catches for 42 yards and one score. Wide receiver 1 Justin Jefferson had seven catches for 137 yards, while Aaron Jones ran 21 times with the ball for 61 yards and also caught 4 passes for 18 yards.
