Jordan Chiles calls out “unjust and racially driven attacks” on social media for the first time since the bronze medal controversy. She released a public statement on social media saying she’ll be “removing myself” from online platforms for mental health.

Since standing on the podium with the bronze medal, the Olympian faced several racist attacks from fans on social media. Her family and coach took to social media to address all the hateful comments pointed at Chiles.

While celebrating my Olympic accomplishments, I heard the devastating news that my bronze medal had been stripped away…I have no words. This decision feels unjust and comes as a significant blow, not just to me, but to everyone who has championed my journey.

She further added that she had confidence in the USAG appeal, but was disappointed to know that it got denied. She further addressed the racist comments she’s been getting since winning the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.

To add to the heartbreak, the unprompted racially driven attacks on social media are wrong and extremely hurtful. I’ve poured my heart and soul into this sport and I am so proud to represent my culture and country.

She ended her statement by saying she believes in the system and that they’ll do what is right and fair in the end. Former US gold medalist Dominique Moceanu noted on X, “A colossal mess.” Romanian gymnastic icon Nadia Comaneci wrote, “Somebody needs to make this right…This process is infuriating and the athletes deserve better.”

Chiles noted how she has dealt with challenges previously in her life noting, “I will approach this challenge as I have others – and will make every effort to ensure that justice is done.” Following Chiles’ statement, Suni Lee left a heart emoji with “Love you” message on social media.

I am also incredibly grateful to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, USAG, and the USOPC for their unwavering support during this difficult time... I am now confronted with one of the most challenging moments of my career.

Simone Biles too shared Jordan Chiles’ post. The US women’s gymnastics team has been continuously supporting Chiles throughout her struggling period since the floor routine finals at the Paris Olympics. Following a re-evaluation request by the Romanian Gymnastics Federation, the IOC ruled that Chiles coach Cecile Landi was 1 minute 4 seconds late in her appeal.

According to the rule, the appeal should be within 1 minute of the scoreboard being shown. IOC ruled that they’ll work with the USA Gymnastics organization to ensure the medal is handed over to Ana Barbosu.

However, the latest video evidence suggested that Landi’s request was within the said timeframe. Unfortunately, the USA’s appeal was denied in the proceedings. They said they’ll not lose hope and continue the fight to see justice is made to the athletes involved.
