Jordan Chiles‘ family calls out people on social media for “racist disgusting comments” amidst the bronze medal saga. Her mom Gina Chiles took to social media to post how such comments are getting piled up against her daughter on online platforms and how she doesn’t warrant such hate.
“She’s being called disgusting things,” Gina Chiles noted on X. Chiles’ sister Jazmin Chiles also penned on her Instagram how racism is “alive and well” following IOC’s order to award Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu the bronze medal in place of her younger sister.
Fans are riled up over the messy situation, as Jazmin and other gymnasts blame the judges for creating such a scenario. They called out the judges noting how their mistake in difficulty score has now led to extreme emotional challenges for the athletes involved.
“...But because the judges failed to give her difficulty and forced an inquiry to be made. Her bronze was stripped over 4 seconds of time that would have never needed to happen if the judges did their job.”Jazmin Chiles on Instagram.
The racist disgusting comments are still happening in 2024. I'm tired of people who say it no longer exists. My daughter is a highly decorated Olympian with the biggest heart and a level of sportsmanship that is unmatched…and she's being called disgusting things.

Jazmin said a gymnast can only be stripped of her medal if “she didn’t win”, was “drugged”, “stepped out of bounds”, or “wasn’t good enough”. But in Jordan Chiles’ case, none of it happened, and yet she was getting her bronze taken back.
Jazmin talked about how many hateful comments Chiles was getting as many accused her of cheating and demanded she return the bronze to Ana Barbosu. “Racism is real, it exists, it is alive and well,” Jazmin added.
She was furious over the “vulgar and vile comments” directed at her sister despite the fault not being hers. Jazmin even found a solution to the whole fiasco stating, “Just give the other girls a bronze and leave it at that! Period.”
Even, Barbosu took to her social platform noting how the fault lies with the judges and the athletes shouldn’t receive such hate for no reason. “We athletes are not to be blamed and the hate directed to us is painful,” she said.
U.S. to refute IOC’s decision after new evidence surfaced
Upon the Romanian Gymnastics Federation’s further request to CAS to re-evaluate Chiles’ coach Cecile Landi’s plea, it was found that Landi was 1 minute 4 seconds late. The rule states that an appeal can be made by the coach within 1 minute of the score being released.
However, initially, it was ruled that Landi crossed that mark for appeal. Shortly after IOC’s decision to hand over the bronze was revealed, Jordan Chiles said she would be “removing” herself from the online platforms for her mental health.
Now in the latest video, the inquiry minute of Cecile Landi’s appeal was noted to be within the 1 minute benchmark. This could make a huge difference in ending the bronze medal saga. The U.S. organization stated that they have submitted “additional evidence” to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, refuting IOC’s earlier statement.

The new video evidence showed that Landi appealed for a re-evaluation within the 47-second to 55-second mark of the score being posted. They added that they couldn’t have known of the evidence as the footage was not initially available to USA Gymnastics.
The U.S. has sent a letter along with the video, requesting the court to revise its ruling. Needless to say, the whole scenario affected both Jordan Chiles and Ana Barbosu the most. Their family, coach, team, and fans are hoping to see a conclusion to the messy situation in a fair ruling.
