‘Candid’ Jordan Love admits there’s no hiding from pressure after signing historic $220 million contract

Despite being the Packers' starter for just one year, Jordan Love has had to constantly prove he's a worthy franchise quarterback.

Jordan Love welcomed the added pressure of a multimillion-dollar contract extension because he is used to it. Ever since entering the NFL, he only had to shoulder one expectation after the other.

There’s always a massive expectation from a first-round pick, especially if he is a quarterback, and Love wasn’t different. However, he went into a system that already had an established starter, Aaron Rodgers. He had to sit behind the Super Bowl winner for the first three years and prove himself that he possessed the skillset to take over.

So to Love, signing a 4-year $220 million deal ($55 million annually) doesn’t pose any different challenge; rather, it is another layer added to the pre-existing barriers that he broke through. In his view, ‘it’s part of the job football players sign up for.’

There's always pressure. There's no hiding that... I've been in some great pressure situations, so I think there's always going to be that. But just finding a way to navigate through this and handle it [as] best I can.

Whether or not he deserved to earn elite quarterback money is debatable. Love has only played one full season as the starter for the Packers, in which his performance varied from time to time.

Following a topsy-turvy first half of the season, the 25-year-old managed to find his feet and led the Packers into the playoffs. The highlight of his season was beating the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington in the NFC Wild Card round.

Aaron Rodgers’ congratulated Jordan Love for becoming the highest-paid player in the NFL

It feels as if only yesterday the Packers made Aaron Rodgers their highest-paid player, but in reality, it was two years ago before he chose to leave for New York to play for the Jets in 2023. Even though Rodgers and Love are no longer teammates, the veteran Super Bowl winner always thought highly of protege.

After the Packers announced Love’s new deal on Friday, fans were waiting for a reply from Rodgers, which they got a day later. Rodgers said,

I want to give a shoutout to Jordan Love becoming the highest paid player in the NFL.

The future Hall of Famer gave his former understudy cheeky advice on where to spend his money.

J-Love, don’t spend it all in one place. But if you do, I still have a house in Green Bay up for sale.
Aaron Rodgers joked

2024 will be a massive season for both quarterbacks but for different reasons. Love will be fighting to prove his worth of the new contract while Rodgers wants to win another Super Bowl before he retires.
