“Cowboys are dumb as hell” – Jordan Love’s historic $220 million contract has fans calling out Jerry Jones’ lack of judgment in Dak Prescott’s extension
Dak Prescott's contract talks halted a while ago and in the meantime other teams paid their quarterbacks, resetting the market.

As much as Jerry Jones tries to come off as a wise sage, his delays in paying Dak Prescott might come back to haunt him. The quarterback market received a massive jolt on Friday after Jordan Love finally signed a new deal with the Green Bay Packers.
The cat-and-mouse game of the Cowboys owner regarding Prescott’s extension doesn’t appear to see an end any time soon. He will more than likely drag it on as far as he can while other franchise owners reward their quarterbacks with handsome paychecks.
Dak Prescott, on the other hand, has far more experience as a starting quarterback and went three consecutive seasons with 12-5 finishes. The only downside is his lack of playoff wins—only 2 in 7 games.
An analyst claimed Jerry Jones dealing Dak Prescott’s contract is dumb
Even though the 30-year-old failed to take the Cowboys to a championship game, Jones confidently backed him to remain with the team beyond his contract year. In the meantime, the market reset once more, raising the numbers further.
The Green Bay Packers rewarded Jordan Love with a four-year $220 million deal ($55 million), making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. Love’s extension is bound to affect Prescott’s deal despite Jones’ constant chants of being all in.
The wait-and-watch policy from the veteran Cowboys owner is eating away precious leverage—whatever little they have. Analyst Warren Sharp pointed out that Jones continuing to delay Dak Prescott’s contract is dumb. And it seems many on the Internet are agreeing to that as well after the recent Love deal.

How will Jerry Jones manage to pay Dak, Micah, and CeeDee?

Honestly one of the smartest things the Cowboys have ever done is not paying Dak elite QB level money

It's the Cowboys, what did you expect Warren?

They truly are. Horrible management

They'd be dumb to re-sign him. He's not worth what he's making now. He's not the guy. He proved it, again, against Green Bay. It's too late. This mindless idea that they have to pay him huge sums based on what other teams pay other people is ridiculous.

If the Cowboys pay him,…
Maybe they have no intention to pay him
— Fitz (@BFitz619) July 27, 2024
They can easily let him walk

I keep trying to tell people this, but he doesn't care anymore. Something broke inside Jerry when the score was 34-10 Green Bay.

Dak Prescott leaving the Dallas Cowboys is a big possibility
As per Spotrac, the Cowboys currently have under $5 million in cap space—one of the lowest in the league. Furthermore, they need to thank Prescott because his restructuring of his current deal helped them gain extra capital.
Prescott has a cap hit of $55 million in 2024, which would rise to $60 million in 2025. If the Cowboys don’t pay him before March 12, then they have to let him go, and he could talk to any potential team.
If the #Cowboys do nothing else with Dak Prescott's financials this league year, he'll carry a $55.4M cap hit through the season, then leave behind a $40.4M dead hit to Dallas for the 2025 season as he enters free agency next March.https://t.co/eWgjLeQ2i6

Unlike CeeDee Lamb, Prescott did not skip OTAs and training camps because he was not motivated by money. However, his recent comments from Oxnard hinted that the situation has changed.
I'm gonna say I want to be here [Dallas Cowboys]. But [you know]—you look up all the great quarterbacks I've watched [who] played for other teams. So, my point in saying that is, that's not something to fear. That may be a reality for me one day. May not be my decision.Dak Prescott said
It’s hard to decipher what’s going on inside Jones’ head. He wants Prescott to continue in Dallas and then claims he does not have enough funds to make everyone happy. If Prescott leaves, then the Cowboys will have a $40 million dead cap—one of the highest in the league.
