The Green Bay Packers overcame the Houston Texans in the last minutes to win their fifth season game this Sunday. The Packers are currently third in a closely contested NFC North behind the Detroit Lions (5-1) and the Minnesota Vikings (5-1).
The Texans capitalized on the three early turnovers, taking a 14-19 halftime lead by scoring 16 points. Despite their strong start, Super Bowl hopefuls Houston stuttered late, missing the chance to mark their first four-game winning streak since 2018. Ultimately, the Packers extended the winning streak to three games with a resilient second-half performance.
As the clock started ticking last quarter, Jordan Love made two connections with Romeo Doubs to bring the Packers to Houston’s 26-yard line. Brandon McManus, the recent controversial signing by the Packers, made it worth his money by finishing off the kick in style with a Lambeau Leap.
Regarding the intense game, quarterback Love noted the key difference between last year’s Packers and what they have changed coming into the new season. Love as well as head coach Matt LaFleur admitted that the clutch drives in the late minutes are huge confidence builders heading into the serious part of the league.
Jordan Love posted a season-best 72.7% completion rate, but his tendency to throw interceptions continued. On Sunday, Love added two more interceptions which allowed the opponent to make important points.
Nevertheless, Love demonstrated an impressive performance, finishing 24 of 33 passes for 220 yards, three touchdowns, and earning a 95.5 passer rating. Over five games, he now has 15 touchdown passes and eight interceptions, having missed Weeks 2 and 3 due to an MCL sprain in his left knee.
Jordan Love wants to be more aggressive and learn from mistakes
Love’s four completions on that drive were crucial in securing the win, but his earlier mistakes contributed to the Texans’ lead. The Packers QB currently holds the most interceptions in the league with eight in five starts.
After the game, Love stated he’ll “keep moving on” despite negative plays. He admitted that he believes that taking risks is essential to achieving rewards.
The NFC North division consists of four teams with a win PCT above .500. The Packers are headed to Jacksonville in the coming week before two straight divisional games.
