It appears the Green Bay Packers would have to start the training camp and preseason without starting quarterback Jordan Love. He has decided to hold participating until his contract situation is resolved.

Up until now, the contract talks between the Packers and Love have been going well and positively. However, the quarterback seems to be fed up hearing about it and wants a definite offer before he takes over in the preseason. General manager Brian Gutekunst confirmed the news while speaking to the reporters on Monday that Love is not going to be practicing until he gets a new deal.

Gutekunst is also optimistic about getting the deal done soon. As he expressed the franchise is willing to have Love for more years after his remarkable performance last season and therefore, close to signing a deal.

Again, we’re working hard to get that done. That’s something that’s very important to us. … We both want the same thing. We want Jordan here for a long time

The Packers GM was informed about this decision by the quarterback last Saturday by his agents and to an extent, he understands it as well. He shared that Love is still participating in the meetings, just not doing the fieldwork.

Initially, the Packers wanted to offer the extension to the star quarterback before the training camp however Gutekunst later admitted that deals like this are complicated and thus take time. Perhaps Love’s absence from the practice may fasten the process and get him the lucrative deal he deserves.

The Packers drafted Love in the 2020 NFL Draft and trained him for three years under veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Last season, as Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets, Love made his debut as a starter and successfully led the team to a playoff victory

Instead of picking the fifth-year option of his rookie deal, Green Bay signed him a one-year deal worth $13.5 million. He finished last season by logging  4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Considering his performance as a starter and Gutekunst’s words, Love is likely to land his extension very soon.
