Former World No.1 Jordan Spieth is eyeing to achieve to something that Rory McIlroy did recently. The 3-time major champion is hoping to complete the grand slam next week by winning the PGA Championship. After McIlroy backed him to win this event, he gave an amusing response.

McIlroy, the Northern Irish golfer, completed the career grand slam by winning the Masters Tournament at the Augusta National in April last month. This was the one major event that he eluded him for a long time.

His playoff victory against Justin Rose saw him become just the 6th golfer in history to win all 4 major championships. Before this event, Spieth, McIlroy, and Phil Mickelson were the only three active golfers who had won 3 legs of the grand slam.

For Spieth, the PGA Championship is the one that he has not won. During 2015, he won the Masters Tournament and the U.S. Open while finishing as the runner-up in the PGA Championship. In 2017, he won the Open Championship.

Next week, the PGA Championship will take place at the Quail Hollow club in North Carolina. After Spieth congratulated McIlroy for his historic win, the 36-year-old backed Spieth to complete the grand slam in this event. The 3-time major champion then went on to give a hilarious reply.

Yeah, at the Rory McIlroy Country Club.

Jordan Spieth said as per Jack Hirsch

Quail Hollow is a course where McIlroy has won 4 times. His first win on the PGA Tour came at this course in 2010. Last year, he won the Wells Fargo Championship on this course just a week before the PGA Championship at Valhalla. As a result of this, Spieth called Quail Hollow, where the major event will take place this year, as the Rory McIlroy’s club.

Jordan Spieth recently got brutally honest about other PGA Tour stars winning events

Jordan Spieth has been on a long winless run on the PGA Tour. Since his win at the 2022 RBC Heritage, the former World No.1 has not found success in nearly 3 years. After losing again at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson, he got brutally honest about how he felt seeing others win events.

The CJ CUP Byron Nelson took place in Spieth’s hometown of Texas. In this event, though, he was upstaged by another Texas golfer, Scottie Scheffler.

The current World No.1 ran away with the competition and went wire-to-wire to claim his 1st victory of the 2025 season. Following his win, Spieth expressed that he feels a bit ‘jealous‘ of others who win any week.

It wasn’t that long ago I was definitely better than him (Scheffler). Now I’m definitely not right now and I hate admitting that about anybody… I’m not jealous of him winning this event over any other. I’m jealous of anyone that wins any week. And I want to be the person there and that’s my drive.

Jordan Spieth told the reporters at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson

A few weeks ago, fellow multi-time major champion and former World No.1 Justin Thomas broke his winless run. He had not won since the 2022 PGA Championship. His victory at the 2025 RBC Heritage ended a nearly 3-year winless run. Spieth is hoping to join him in this and get the job done at the 2025 PGA Championship.

Who is Jordan Spieth paired up with at the Truist Championship this week?

A week before the 107th PGA Championship, the PGA Tour action will go over to the Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon Course for the Truist Championship, the 6th signature event of the year. Jordan Spieth is one of the top names who will compete in this event before traveling to North Carolina.

Previously known as the Wells Fargo Championship, this event also contains a stacked field. With a purse prize of $20 million, Spieth will be competing alongside Min Woo Lee and Maverick McNealy. The trio will tee off at 12:15 p.m. Eastern Time in Round 1.

The one key thing about signature events is that many of them do not feature a cut. The Truist Championship will also not have a cut, meaning that all 72 golfers in the field will get the chance to play all 72 holes.
