With the month of February underway, the attention of golf fans turns to the Genesis Invitational. This year, the event will be hosted at the Torrey Pines course instead of the Riviera Golf Club due to the LA wildfires. On Monday, 3-time major champion Jordan Spieth received a special invitation to this event.
Every year a few players receive a special invitation for this tournament. This year, the Tiger Woods‘ hosted event has sent a special invitation to Spieth.
The Genesis Invitational is a signature event on the PGA Tour. This means the playing field of this event is limited.
Spieth finished 80th in the FedEx Cup fall rankings last year and is currently ranked 84th in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). This is due to the fact that he had missed the last six months of action due to a wrist injury.
At the Open Championship in 2024, Spieth a tendon popped out of his wrist causing him severe pain. He would undergo a surgery on this in August after getting eliminated from the FedEx Cup.
Last week at the AT&T Pebble Beach, he made his first start of the new season. He will now tee off at the Torrey Pines alongside some of the big names of the tour following this special invitation.

He is though not the only one to receive a special invitation. Apart from him, Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler and Gary Woodland are the other two PGA Tours who have now got an entry into this tournament.

He’s fallen that far? Is he going to kill the next 15 years waiting out the Champions Tour? Wow.

Spieth did not have a good outing at the Genesis Invitational last year. He was disqualified from the tournament after the second round after he had signed an incorrect scorecard. He will be hoping not to make any such errors this time around.
