Former World No.1 Jordan Spieth is a huge fan of football and quarterback Josh Allen. During the 2025 Waste Management Phoenix Open, the 3-time major champion heaped huge praise on the Buffalo Bills star who recently claimed a major award.
The 28-year-old quarterback was named the 2024 NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP). He received 383 votes and finished ahead of Baltimore Ravens’ star Lamar Jackson to claim this honor.
Spieth, who is making just his second start of the 2025 season, heaped praise on Allen during this event. A few years ago, the quarterback had praised him for his resilience in overcoming a near four-year winless drought.
The feeling is mutual between them. After shooting 65 in the second round on Friday, the former World No.1 pointed out the skills and plays of Allen.
I love the way he talks about his team. I love how he fights. I think he’s obviously an incredible quarterback. How can you not like watching him play? How about that lateral this year (the play against the San Francisco 49ers where he threw the touchdown pass and scored the touchdown) It just looks like he’s out there playing backyard football with his buddies.
Jordan Spieth said as per the PGA Tour
“He’s my favorite player .. maybe in any sport right now, but definitely my favorite football player”

After defeating Jackson and the Ravens in the AFC Divisional Rounds, Allen and the Bills took on the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship. Despite winning against them in the regular season, the Bills and their star QB fell short against the Chiefs in the playoffs again as they lost by a 29-32 score and missed out on a Super Bowl appearance.
Jordan Spieth finds himself in contention following score of 67 in WM Phoenix Open third round
Jordan Spieth competing for a championship title is something golf fans have been eager to see. The 31-year-old has not been at his best in recent years. However, his performances at the WM Phoenix Open so far has put him in contention for the title.

After an opening round score of 69, Spieth reminded fans of his skills with a 6-under-65 score in Round 2. In the third round, he made four birdies to shot a score of 67 to fall 13-under par for the tournament.
His performances on Saturday saw him do something that he had not done in over 13 months. After making a par on the 18th hole, Spieth went bogey-free for a second consecutive round.
The last time he had two successive rounds without dropping a shot was in The Sentry tournament in 2024. That time he finished 3rd in the leaderboard while being 27-under, two strokes behind eventual winner Chris Kirk.
The 13-time PGA Tour winner is T2 for the Phoenix Open, five strokes behind Thomas Detry. Despite the gap, the golfer is confident of his chances.
I think trying to make up shots through nine holes is big, and then when you turn, everything changes Sunday on the back nine.
