Ahead of making his 2025 PGA Tour debut, Jordan Spieth revealed that he had a horrific injury scare at the 2024 Open Championship. The 3-time major champion informed that a tendon popped out of his wrist, causing him severe pain.
The former World No.1 had been nursing a wrist injury since 2023. He got injured at his home while he was playing with his son Sammy. He would try to rest and let it heal and avoid surgery. Unfortunately for him, it never healed.
At the Open Championship in July last year, Spieth wrist’ started causing issues again. After he hit a tee shot at the 18th hole, a tendon popped out leaving him injured. At that moment, the golfer knew he cannot keep on going like this.
I got it back in before I hit my tee shot, and that’s when I thought maybe that’s the last straw. Maybe we should probably do something about this. I don’t really feel like playing like this anymore.
Jordan Spieth told Jim Nantz in the press conference
The golfer would take part in the FedEx Cup playoffs. After getting eliminated from the event, he underwent surgery. Around 11 weeks after the surgery, the 31-year-old started hitting nerf balls in order to get back to mechanics.
In the conference, he added that he was thinking of making his return at the American Express. However, after consultations with fellow competitors, he decided not to rush himself and thus decide to make his first start off the season at the AT&T Pebble Beach.
Jordan Spieth not the only major champion who is set to make 2025 season debut at AT&T Pebble Beach
After a few months on the shelf, Jordan Spieth is finally back in action. He will make his 2025 season debut at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this week and will tee with another former World No.1 Justin Thomas. He though is not the only major champion who will kick start their 2025 season in this signature event.

Current World No.1 and two-time Masters champion Scottie Scheffler will also be returning at this event. Just like Spieth, he injured his wrist while spending some time with his loved ones.
Scheffler injured his right wrist while preparing for dinner during Christmas. The 28-year-old got hurt when a glass of wine broke in his hand, which saw the shards pierce his wrist. He would undergo surgery that kept him out of action for almost a month.
On Tuesday, he gave a hilarious wine glass warning to others and urged them to be careful around them following his scare. Like Spieth, Scheffler also thought about returning to action at the American Express but later decided against it.
