The Players Championship at the TPC Sawgrass on Saturday saw winds become an important factor. With gusty winds around the course, it became difficult for golfers to control their shots. One of them was Jordan Spieth, who struggled a bit during the third round and tossed away his club in frustration.

After scores of 70 and 71 in the first two rounds, the former World No.1 was trying to close out the gap on top of the leaderboard. With 5 birdies and 4 bogeys through the 15 holes, Spieth looked to continue his momentum and tried to shot an even par or low score.

His plans to close out the gap went up in smoke on the 515-yard par-5 16th hole. After finding the fairway with his first shot, Spieth attempted to find the waterside green on the second shot.

Unfortunately, the ball went right and found the water trap, which cost him another shot. The golfer was left frustrated with this and tossed away his golf club as his temper boiled over. Check out the video regarding this incident below:

Spieth would take a drop and then attempted his fourth shot. That one found the bunker near the hole. With his fifth shot, he would chip out the ball for a bogey putt.

He ended up missing the bogey putt as it stayed just away from the hole. Spieth then tapped in the double bogey putt from close range to post a score of 7 on this hole. With even par scores of the 17th and 18th hole, Spieth finished the day 1-over par and went from 4-under to 2-under for the tournament.

Jordan Spieth admits throwing away golf club was not a ‘good move’

In the game of golf, frustrations can boil over quickly with a wrong shot. This is what happened with Jordan Spieth as he lost his cool on the moving day of the Players Championship. After the round, the 3-time major champion looked back at the moment and admitted that it was not a ‘good move’.

The winds seemingly played a major factor in this. As Spieth arrived on the 16th hole, winds started to whip as he tried to go the greens in two shots.

I didn’t mean to. I meant to hold on to it. That’s why it went so low and into the ground, and I feel bad I tried to step on the turf and it wasn’t a good move… It’s like just a perfect series of events that just frustrates you so much. and you make the one mistake you can’t and then I turn it to seven.

Jordan Spieth said as per Golfweek

In this tournament, Spieth has had some wayward shots. In Round 2, at the 5th hole, he hit a ball that went over the car path. He would immediately reload and try again. The outcome was the same again as he once again fired a shot far away from his intended target. Fans on social media would quickly relate to that incident, and threw in some fun reactions.

Jordan Spieth claims it was ‘tough’ watching Arnold Palmer Invitational at home

Before the 51st The Players Championship, a limited field of players teed off at the Arnold Palmer Invitational a week ago. Jordan Spieth was not in the playing field and was not offered an invitation to the event. Spieth later claimed that it was ‘tough’ watching the action from home.

He had previously also mentioned that he was ‘bummed‘ to miss that event. Along with him, Rickie Fowler was another one who did not get an invite to this signature event and had to watch the tournament from the sidelines.

It was tough watching but I didn’t earn my way into the event, so it’s a little easier to watch it that way.

Jordan Spieth said in The Players Championship press conference

He later admitted that missing the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship was harder for him than missing the Arnold Palmer Invitational. During the Open Championship last year, a tendon had popped out of his wrist which caused him pain. After being eliminated from the FedEx Cup playoffs, he underwent a surgery to repair this.

Due to the weather forecast, Spieth has been paired with Ryan Fox and Joe Highsmith in a threesome group for the final round of The Players Championship. An even par or lower score could see him finish inside the top 25 standings on the leaderboard.
