Jorge Masvidal had to go through a lot before becoming one of the BMFs in the UFC octagon. The fighter struggled with poverty and had a very troublesome childhood. When Jorge Masvidal was four years old, his father was sentenced to prison, and he had to live apart from him.
Jorge Masvidal recently did an interview with DJ Vlad, in which he was asked about his father’s imprisonment. The ‘Gamebred’ went into detail about what happened and mentioned his father getting caught for selling illegal substances to earn his livelihood.
It was a drug charge….He did 18 years. He was moving some powder, you know here and there. He was making ends meet via the old hustler’s route and he had the cocaine.Jorge Masvidal via VLAD TV
Masvidal is currently scheduled for his upcoming boxing bout against former rival Nate Diaz. The 10-round 175-pound light heavyweight bout will be held on June 1 at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. Masvidal’s father constantly supports his son during the fights. As such, one could expect him to attend the bout against Diaz.
Masvidal has a lot of love for his father, Jorge Masvidal Sr., and considers him as his best friend and right-hand man. The fighter also talks about being in regular contact with his father during his fight camps. However, things aren’t as smooth as the fighter would like.
When Jorge Masvidal’s father was arrested for attempted murder
Last year in May, Jorge Masvidal’s father was arrested and charged with attempted murder following a shooting at Masvidal’s Miami home. Jorge Fernandez Masvidal was booked into jail in Miami-Dade County, Florida, and was charged with second-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon. Police records showed he posted a $10,000 bond.
According to Miami-Dade Police Department press sources, officers were called to a Miami home on SW 118th Avenue listed as Masvidal’s property. When they arrived, an emergency response team was tending to a man who was shot. Police reported that the victim indicated Masvidal Sr. drew a gun on him during an altercation and shot him.
Like his father, Masvidal himself had also run into the law when he attacked rival Colby Covington outside a restaurant. The fighter was found guilty of misdemeanor battery but avoided jail time. It seems like both father and son have found it difficult to stay away from legal trouble.
