As the Los Angeles Dodgers wrapped up the World Series on Wednesday night, the 2024 season came to an end. This means the offseason has kicked started. Dodgers’ cross-town rivals, the Los Angeles Angels have made the first move of the offseason as they picked up Jorge Soler through a trade from the Atlanta Braves.

While the Dodgers had a great run in the 2024 season, the Angels continued to struggle again. An injury to Mike Trout and the loss of Shohei Ohtani saw the Anaheim side finish bottom of the American League West standings with a poor 63-99 record.

Soler started the 2024 season on the San Francisco Giants as their designated hitter. He was later traded to the Braves. He would finish the season with 21 home runs and 64 RBIs while batting with an average of .241.

The Angels had been looking for some firepower in their offense and now get an experienced star in their squad in exchange for right-handed pitcher Griffin Canning. GM Perry Minasian believes that Soler can provide some thump in their lineup.

It was a move we felt like we needed to make sooner than later. We spent the last three weeks looking at our club, in general, and the strengths and weaknesses. We identified Jorge as somebody that would really fit. It’s right-handed power. It’s somebody that can change a game with one swing of a bat and can go play the outfield if you need him.

Soler brings in some precious postseason experience with him. The Cuban international won the World Series with the Chicago Cubs in 2016 and with the Braves in 2021. In his triumph with the Atlanta outfit, Soler was named the World Series MVP with 3 home runs and 6 RBIs while batting .300 against the Houston Astros.
