Jose Mourinho says ‘better team lost today’ to which Jurgen Klopp disagreed and so do we

Jose Mourinho just couldn’t agree that Liverpool outplayed Tottenham Hotspur in every department across the pitch. Liverpool had more shots, more shots on target, more passes, more passing to the final third and more passing accuracy. Yet Jose Mourinho feels that Tottenham were the better team in the match and we’re sorry to say, football doesn’t work that way.
How do you sit back throughout the match and expect a win?
We’ll accept that it is Jose Mourinho’s tactics to park the bus and then hit the opponents at the counter. However there is something called football knowledge where you need to adapt to each team and tweak your tactics accordingly. Jose Mourinho decided to set his team up to sit back and absorb the pressure against a team which literally thrives on pressing the ball. Liverpool took advantage of Tottenham sitting back and kept pummelling them in waves.
Curtis Jones made penetrating runs and drew three defenders him to him in one such situation and Mohamed Salah had a clear shot at goal. It was eventually heavily deflected but it was a goal nevertheless as Liverpool kept attacking them. Serge Aurier was the only player who was winning his battles against a Liverpool player as Sadio Mane couldn’t get past him. However the rest of the team was able to win their battles and took it to their advantage.
Chances were missed, but that doesn’t make you a better team
Son Heung-Min converted his chance and got the equalizer for Tottenham Hotspur against Liverpool. That was all for the first half as Liverpool was the better team in the first half. Tottenham carved out tons of chances in the second half, but weren’t able to put the ball in the net. The fault squarely lies on their fault as none of Liverpool’s defenders were close enough to force them to miss the shots. It was instead the inadequacy of Harry Kane and Steven Bergwijn who couldn’t score from their positions.
If we’re going to consider Tottenham as the better team because of the opportunities they had, then Liverpool was even better there. Mohamed Salah, Curtis Jones, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all had opportunities which they missed converting. If all those missed chances by both teams had been converted, then Liverpool would still have won 6-4.
Who’s the better team now Jose Mourinho? The Normal One yet again wins against The Special One!
