Jose Mourinho states that Gareth Bale could potentially have healed himself off the psychological scars of the past couple of seasons

Gareth Bale is finally finding his form at the start of this year as he has started to score the goals that were expected off him. Harry Kane and Gareth Bale combined as a potent duo as the former assisted the latter twice, while scoring two goals himself. Gareth Bale’s return to form will be good news in his parent club Real Madrid’s ears as Tottenham Hotspur could still sign him on a permanent basis if he is consistent.

Jose Mourinho states that Gareth Bale was held back more by his psychological scars than physical injuries

When a journalist asked him if Gareth Bale has stepped up after being challenged by him a couple of weeks ago, Mourinho stated that he didn’t challenge him. All that he and his staff did was offer him the help he needed to heal his ‘psychological scars’. Mourinho said that “when you have a couple of seasons with lots of injuries, I think it is not about the muscular scars, it’s about the psychological scars”. Mourinho attributed this statement to Gareth Bale’s injury filled seasons at Real Madrid, where even when fit he was stuck on the bench.

“That brings fear (and) instability. There is a moment where when you are working very well and everybody around you is giving everything we can give, there is a moment where that psychological barrier has to be broken-and he broke it.”
