The NFL brings up some of the best battles between teams, players and fan bases. The league’s history is littered with rivalries that have not only enthralled fans but also elevated the sport to new heights. In today’s league, the prime rivalry position-wise is between Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. That said, they do have that competitiveness which has spurred them on to talk trash to each other in the past.
The Buffalo Bills quarterback was a guest on the podcast Green Light with Chris Long. There, Long asked him if he and Mahomes had a competitive fire in them, just like the interaction Michael Jordan had with Larry Bird in the tunnel as shown in the documentary ‘The Last Dance’.
Funny enough cause The Last Dance came out before that season, that COVID year. And you know Larry Bird goes up to MJ, 'You b****, **** you.' I saw him in the locker room and I did the same thing. I was like, ‘What the h*ll.’Josh Allen said
It seems the two had such an interaction before the Last Dance came out, which means, they are not only rivals, but also respectfully want to compete against each other. When rivals do not respect each other, it takes the gloss out of the rivalry. Josh Allen was clear that after the demise of the New England Patriots dynasty, this is what football fans are looking forward to. The competition between these two is always expected to be great.
Therefore, for Allen, it also feels great when he and Patrick Mahomes are part of the conversation of some of the best in history. Naturally, with Mahomes already winning three Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs, the onus is on Allen to win.
Patrick Mahomes vs. Josh Allen this season might disappoint
Last season, Josh Allen had a lot of stud players on his Buffalo Bills. However, injuries put a dampener on their season hopes. That led to a lot of cuts in this offseason. So much so, that Allen will be left with a receiving core comprising of late-round picks and players who have been waived off other teams.
But even then, he is expected to lead them to a decent finish. However, that expectation should be dampened when they welcome the Kansas City Chiefs just before their bye week. Not only will they face the reigning back-to-back Super Bowl champions, but a significantly improved one. The Chiefs will be a force to reckon with this season.
Therefore, it might be a disappointment for fans looking for a great showdown in the upcoming season. That said, it may not stop them from having another Michael Jordan and Larry Bird moment in the tunnels.
