Patrick Mahomes wrote his name in the history books by qualifying for his seventh straight AFC Championship game since becoming the starter for the Kansas City Chiefs. He will face Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium on January 26.

It’s an important game for both teams for very different reasons. While the Chiefs goal is completing the first-ever three-peat in NFL history, the Bills are aiming for a first Super Bowl appearance since 1993.

Josh Allen wants to rewrite history and become the first Bills quarterback to stand at the top. However, he knows better than anyone else the challenge Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs pose in the postseason. The 2 All-Pro shot caller praised his opposite number on Wednesday and labeled the Chiefs as one of the greatest rosters ever assembled.

They control the ball very well… Don’t make bad decisions. Obviously, Patrick is one of the greatest to ever play the game and they are one of the greatest teams to ever be assembled. Going for a three-peat, that’s where everybody wants to be in this league, is to have sustained success they’ve had. They play great situational football, understand when it’s time to go and when it’s time to fend off someone, that’s what we are aiming to be.

Josh Allen said.

Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly led the Bills to four straight Super Bowls but lost all of them. The Bills are among the few who have never lifted the Lombardi Trophy.

Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, head-to-head record

Allen is among the handful who have had the better of the 3x NFL MVP in the past. The 28-year-old owns an impressive 4-1 record against Mahomes in the regular season. It was Allen who handed the Chiefs their first defeat of the 2024 season. His 26-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter secured a 21-30 win in week 11.

However, Mahomes owns Allen in the postseason. He is 4-0 against the Bills and these two teams met each other last season in the divisional round in the 2023 season. The Chiefs won 27-24 after the Bills kicker Tyler Bass missed a decisive field goal in the final moments of the game.

Allen undoubtedly had the better 2024 even though the Chiefs topped AFC. He is currently in a two-horse race with Ravens QB Lamar Jackson for the NFL MVP title after he threw a total of 42 touchdowns and 6 interceptions from 307 completions. Mahomes had a slow start to the season but managed to pull himself together by completing 392 passes for 3928 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
