Josh Allen wrote his name in NFL history books. Allen threw 3 passing scores and rushed for 3 touchdowns in the Buffalo Bills’ week 11 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Buccaneers arrived in Buffalo in search of a win after losing to the Patriots last week. Vegas viewed the Bucs as underdogs against a Bills team that suffered a shock defeat against the Dolphins.
Allen lost ground on retaining his MVP title, even though he had tallied 22 total touchdowns from the first nine games of the season.
He made a swift return to those conversations by throwing three touchdown passes to Tyrell Shavers (43 yards), Ty Johnson (52 yards), and James Cook (25 yards). Allen also rushed for three (2 yards, 5 yards, and 9 yards).
At first glance, Allen’s incredible touchdown might seem like a once-in-a-lifetime feat. That’s not the case. This was his second career 6-touchdown haul game. The Los Angeles Rams were on the receiving end of Allen’s wrath in Week 14 of the 2024 season.
The only other player to contribute 6 touchdowns was Cleveland Browns legend Otto Graham. However, Graham’s feat pre-dates the NFL merger (1954 NFL title game against the Detroit Lions). So, in that sense, Allen is the only player in the post-merger era to throw 3 passing touchdowns and score 3 rushing touchdowns.

Sunday’s game was a wild ride for the Bills. Despite conceding 7 penalties, the defense came through with forced turnovers, a blocked PAT, several goal-line stands, and a sack.
Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield fumbled once and threw an interception. Special teams got in on the fun by recovering a loose ball from Mecole Hardman Jr. on a punt return.
Josh Allen equaled a unique touchdown record
In the second-to-last drive, Allen scored his 10th rushing touchdown of the year. After snapping the ball, Allen juked right before smashing into the Bucs’ linebackers. However, he used his 6-foot-5, 237-pound body to push the pile to score the game’s last touchdown.

It was a significant moment for Allen. He tied former NFL MVP and Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton with 75 rushing touchdowns. Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, famous for his ‘tush push’ play, has recorded 60 rushing touchdowns despite playing 35 fewer games.

The two turnovers mattered little in the outcome. It ended 44-32 for the Bills. Allen finished with 19 completions from 30 pass attempts (63.3%), for 317 yards, 6 total touchdowns, and 2 interceptions.
CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco expects similar performances from Allen in the remaining games.
You would take 2 turnovers and 6 total touchdowns every day of the week… Let him [Josh Allen] play free, let him use those legs like he did today. This is the Josh Allen that needs to be playing for the Buffalo Bills. If he plays like this, they [the Bills] have a chance to get to the Super Bowl.

Allen’s tally improved to 204 completions from 293 pass attempts for 2456 yards (69.6%), for 18 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions, along with 351 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns (28 total touchdowns). However, he’s miles behind Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford with 27 passing touchdowns.
Regardless, the Bills are 7-3 and in second in the AFC East behind the 9-2 New England Patriots.
