In Short
  • Josh Allen's Super Bowl chances improved with the Buffalo Bills trading for WR DJ Moore.
  • The Bills acquired Moore from the Bears, sending a 2026 second-round pick in return.
  • Moore's addition addresses the Bills' need for elite receivers, enhancing their deep-ball offense.

Josh Allen is busy at home looking after his wife, Hailee Steinfeld, as the two are getting ready to welcome their first child during the offseason.

It would be the best news of his life, as every parent does whenever a child is born. But at the same time, the superstar quarterback is also hoping his Buffalo Bills do enough to give him a chance to celebrate that birth with something meaningful.

A Super Bowl win in the year his child is born would be the best gift he could receive. But for that to happen, the franchise needs to pull a lot of strings, especially when their QB could not do much with what he had last season.

Their most glaring weakness last season was the lack of true elite receivers. With Keon Coleman‘s struggles to compound their problems, the Bills went to work this offseason looking for someone who could elevate their squad.

Enter DJ Moore after the Chicago Bears agreed to trade their former 24th overall pick to the Bills, along with a fifth-round pick, for the Bills’ second-round pick this year.

Even though the soon-to-be 29-year-old did not end his career with the Bears on the best note, his lack of effort on the final play of the Divisional round resulted in an interception.

That play notwithstanding, the Bills are getting a proven star at the receiver position, who will admire Josh Allen‘s penchant for throwing the deep ball.

Along with running back James Cook, receivers Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel, and the dynamic tight end duo of Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox, Allen’s Super Bowl chances just got a boost.

Josh Allen will love throwing it deep to DJ Moore

There is no doubt that Josh Allen loves the deep ball more than any other quarterback in the league. His receivers’ inability to separate from their defenders last season curtailed their effectiveness on long plays. With DJ Moore, that is about to change.

DJ Moore is 1 of 5 players with 50+ catches on throws of 20+ air yards over the last 5 seasons, joining CeeDee Lamb, Justin Jefferson, Tyreek Hill, and George Pickens. The Bills had the lowest average target depth in the NFL last season (9.2).

That is some company for a receiver whose name was never usually mentioned alongside those superstars. What is more impressive is that the Maryland alum managed to compile those long-ball statistics last season despite the Bears not utilizing him to his full potential.

The Chicago-based franchise distributed the ball evenly between Moore, second-year star Rome Odunze, and rookies WR Luther Burden and TE Colston Loveland. On the Bills, the Philadelphia native will probably be their first option.

Josh Allen’s Bills will pay DJ Moore top dollar for his services

Even if there was any doubt that Khalil Shakir could take the No. 1 spot, DJ Moore‘s future salary should seemingly cement his status as the de facto primary option in Buffalo, New York.

As part of today’s trade, Buffalo will be guaranteeing $15.5 million of DJ Moore’s 2028 base salary, per his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey. Moore’s 2026 salary is fully guaranteed, and his 2027 salary becomes fully guaranteed next week.

Where the 26-year-old will command an average of $13.2 million over the next four seasons, Moore will receive $24.5 million, or nearly double what Shakir will make.

With the Bills guaranteeing the former Bears wideout’s salaries up until the 2028 season, it seems Josh Allen’s Super Bowl window has extended at least until that period.
