Josh Allen has been among the few quarterbacks to get the better of Patrick Mahomes over the years. Thursday (September 18) marked a historic moment in which the Buffalo Bills quarterback outpaced the three-time Super Bowl champion in one department.
Allen and the Bills welcomed rivals, the 0-2 Miami Dolphins, to their home to extend the winning record. Fans expected a lopsided affair considering Allen’s dominance in the tie.
ESPN Bet gave the Bills a 75.8% chance of defeating the Dolphins. Remarkably, the Dolphins opened the scoring, but Allen quickly stamped his mark in the fixture. The 29-year-old shot caller threw 3 passing touchdowns and set up one rushing score for running back James Cook to snatch a ten-point victory.
Allen’s four-touchdown contribution created history. NFL research revealed that he surpassed Patrick Mahomes as the fastest quarterback to record 300 offensive touchdowns (including playoffs).

Josh Allen breaks Dan Marino’s touchdown record
The Bills replaced the New England Patriots as the dominant force in the AFC East, following Tom Brady’s move to the NFC, winning five straight division titles. A feat once attributed to the Dolphins’ great Dan Marino in the 1980s and early 1990s.

Allen surpassed the Hall of Fame quarterback in one department as well. The score stood at 14-7 after the Bills scored on back-to-back possessions through Dalton Kincaid and Jackson Hawes.
Those two touchdowns broke a longstanding record for Marino against the New York Jets. It was the most touchdowns by a quarterback against a single NFL team.
Allen’s 45 touchdowns against the Dolphins is a record for the most over a 15-game span against any opponent in NFL history.

Bills improve to 3-0
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa struggled as usual but kept his team in the game. He threw two touchdown passes to Jaylen Waddle for a three-yard touchdown and to Tyreek Hill for a five-yard touchdown.
However, a blunder three minutes before the final whistle slashed any chance of a late comeback. On first and ten, Tagovailoa snapped the ball and aimed a pass to Waddle, which was intercepted by the Bills linebacker Terrell Bernard.
Veteran kicker Matt Prater, who missed from 39 yards in the second quarter, converted from 48 to give the Bills a ten-point lead. The gap stayed that way until the referee whistled to end the game. It finished 21-31 for the Bills from Buffalo.
Tagovailoa’s stat line flashed 22 completions for 146 yards (83.41 QBR), 2 touchdowns, and one interception. De’Von Achane logged 12 carries for 62 yards, while Hill caught 5 for 49 and one score.
As for the Bills, Josh Allen threw 22 completions from 28 attempts for 213 yards, 3 touchdowns, and a QBR of 141.76. Cook ran 19 times with the ball for 108 yards and scored one touchdown.
Speaking with the Amazon Prime crew, Allen hinted that his teammates make his job easier.
When guys know what they are doing, they are in the right spots. You go through your progression. It makes [playing quarterback] fun.

Allen took over the Giants’ Russell Wilson as the leading passer in the league. After three games, he has 69 completions for 755 yards (69.7%) and 5 touchdowns, along with 24 carries for 114 yards and 2 TDs on the ground.
Up next, the Bills host the New Orleans Saints. In fact, they play four straight games against teams that finished below .500 last year. So, by the end of October, the Bills might improve to 7-0.
