Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills blew a great opportunity to win the Super Bowl on Saturday night (January 17). The Buffalo Bills quarterback turned the ball over three times, lost it twice, and threw two interceptions, including one in overtime.

Yes, the first AFC Divisional fixture of the 2025-26 NFL season needed OT to decide the outcome. The Broncos shocked the Bills when Bo Nix connected with wideout Marvin Mims with barely a minute left until the final whistle.

The Bills burned through two timeouts to help Allen set up a field goal for veteran Matt Prater. Prater successfully made the field goal from 50 yards. Sean McDermott used his final timeout to keep the Broncos from gaining the upper hand.

Denver’s opening drive in OT ended with a punt. A field goal would have secured the Bills’ path into the AFC Championship game. However, the big 6-foot-5 signal caller threw an interception. The Broncos defensive back ripped the ball from Brandin Cooks’ grasp in a move that sparked plenty of debate.

In the end, the Broncos kicked the game-winning field goal. It finished 33-30. Allen finished with 25 completions for 283 yards and three touchdown passes to Dalton Kincaid, Keon Coleman, and Mecole Hardman Jr. His regular-season kryptonite came back to bite him in the postseason. Prior to Saturday’s game, Allen had thrown just three INTs in 14 games. He threw a couple against the Broncos.

Feel like I let my teammates down tonight.

Josh Allen said during the post-game press conference

Besides throwing interceptions, Allen turned the ball over four times (five total turnovers), fumbling on a scramble, losing the ball on a strip sack by Nik Bonitto, and giving it up on a throw.

Can’t win with five turnovers. You shoot yourself in the foot like that, you don’t deserve to win the football game.

Loss against the Broncos adds more misery to Allen’s poor playoff record

Both teams desperately needed the win. The postseason had eluded them for a long time. It came down to which team wanted it more and who made fewer mistakes.

Denver QB Bo Nix threw his customary interception, but his outing was more or less spotless. Allen can’t say that. His mistakes played a big part in the outcome. Not only that, the Bills committed 5 penalties for 68 yards, including pass interference calls on Denver’s final drive in overtime. Allen’s seventh straight playoff run ends in disappointment.

With the loss, the reigning league MVP picked up a record he’d rather avoid. Allen is now the only quarterback to have made eight playoff appearances without winning a Super Bowl ring.

Staunch Kansas City Chiefs supporter Nick Wright took a swipe at Allen with a fiery tweet.

ALL YEAR, I’ve had to listen to how Josh Allen is QB1, arguably the “most talented quarterback ever”, and all of this other objective nonsense… only to see him turn the ball over 4x (including one of the most cartoonish TOs of the season before the half), miss a wide open Kincaid for the win, AND not come thru in OT.

Nick Wright tweeted

It’s hard to imagine the Bills getting another shot without having to face Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, or Aaron Rodgers in the playoffs. Mahomes always had Allen’s number in the past. With him on rehab, it was a clear path to the Super Bowl. However, the Bills fell to a second-year QB.
