Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson rib off each other after NBA Cup win

The New York Knicks are sending a message to everyone in the NBA Cup, with key players like Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson leading the charge. However, as the team cruised into the quarterfinals after defeating the Orlando Magic, the focus wasn’t just on their stellar performance but also on their rather interesting, though contrasting, motivations for winning.

Hart, never one to shy away from speaking his mind, did not hesitate about his intentions when asked about the $51,500 bonus that comes with advancing to the NBA Cup quarterfinals.

I don’t really care about the young guys getting any money, I’m just worried about me, what I’m gonna spend.

Josh Hart told reporters

However, his friend and teammate Jalen Brunson wasn’t going to let Josh Hart’s comments slide, as he immediately jabbed back at Hart about his self-motivated intentions.

You’re a f*cking a*shole.

Jalen Brunson replied from the back

Prior to the game, Jalen Brunson had emphasized the financial benefits that winning the prize would earn for his teammates on smaller contracts. Josh Hart, however, took a more self-centered, albeit humorous, approach to cashing in his prize money. In this case, those goals include purchasing a new Audemars Piguet (AP) watch, a luxury item from the renowned Swiss brand.

Every player on the NBA Cup-winning team is set to receive $514,971, a life-changing sum for players on smaller contracts like Jericho Sims, Matt Ryan, and Tyler Kolek. For stars like Josh Hart, however, it’s more of a cherry on top, seemingly a way to splurge on himself.

The Knicks’ 121-106 victory over the Magic on Tuesday solidified their spot in the NBA Cup quarterfinals, marking their dominance in East Group A with a perfect 4-0 record. Karl-Anthony Towns led with 23 points and 15 rebounds, while Jalen Brunson added 21 points. Josh Hart’s impact was equally significant, as he recorded a triple-double with 11 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists.

The Knicks’ win not only secured their advancement but also demonstrated their growing chemistry. After a slow start to the season, the Knicks seem to be getting back on track with a 13-8 record, going 8-2 in their last 10 games. A huge part of this has been the group of Brunson, Hart, Mikal Bridges and superstar addition Karl Anthony Towns beginning to gel together.

Despite Josh Hart’s joking remarks, it’s clear that both he and Brunson share a competitive fire that’s driving the Knicks forward in the second rendition of the NBA Cup tournament. The Knicks’ upcoming NBA Cup matchup against Atlanta on Dec. 11 promises to be another test of their mettle, but with the way this team is clicking, they look ready for the challenge.
