Travis Hunter is en route to making history. He will hope to join a handful of players in NFL history who played more than one position on a consistent basis. The reigning Heisman winner will be a top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and, just like his mentor Deion Sanders, intends to cement his legacy as a dual-position player.
Travis Hunter has not kept his intentions hidden. He has communicated to teams that unless they intend to play him at wide receiver and cornerback, they should refrain from drafting him. Hunter managed to accomplish this feat during his time at Colorado, but the NFL is an entirely different league and to do the same at this level of physicality would be nothing short of a Herculean task.
However, he is capable of doing it. If Hunter does pull this off, then he deserves to be paid more than any other player in the league. That is what Packers’ running back Josh Jacobs believes. In his opinion, Travis Hunter is a generational talent who has shown time and again that he can prove critics wrong.
On a recent appearance on the ZIAS YouTube channel, Josh Jacobs revealed that if Travis Hunter is able to do this, there is no reason for him not to demand to be compensated accordingly.
If he is able to do it (play both sides) though, he is gon’ have to be the highest paid player of all time. I think you give him…I think he earned the right. You give him a chance to at least see. I think he earned that.
Josh Jacobs said
Jacobs came to Hunter’s aid as he believes any team that drafts him must first give him a chance to play on both sides of the ball. The running back believes Hunter has earned that right. As a Heisman winner, it is only fair to give him that opportunity to back his talk up. If he is unable to handle the pressure, then the team can opt to play him at either defense or offense. However, he deserves to be given the benefit of the doubt.
Travis Hunter hopes to follow along in Deion Sanders’ footsteps
Hunter hopes to do what his mentor gained notoriety for doing. Since Deion Sanders, the league has not had a dedicated two-way player. There have been players that occasionally stepped into alternating roles, such as Julian Edelman, who played corner on many occasions, but Travis Hunter intends to do this on a nightly basis.

The fans are rooting for Hunter, but the biggest question is if his body will be able to handle the level of physicality in the league.
It will all depend on his body…he’s really gonna change the scene. But like I said, I think he earned the right to at least try.

What would an estimated contract look like for Hunter, in case he pulls this off? An average annual value of $45-50 million would not be far-fetched. Myles Garrett is the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL with an annual value of $40 million, so a dual-threat player deserves to be paid more. A franchise picking Travis Hunter would not shy away from offering him that much money either because he is box office. The man is capable of bringing people through the stadium doors and generating revenue.
With so much hype surrounding his NFL career before he is even drafted, one can only imagine how much the excitement will grow once Hunter finally makes it to the league.
