Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs is the latest player to voice frustration over the turf at MetLife Stadium. Jacobs injured his knee during the Packers’ Week 11 win over the New York Giants.
Players wear guardian caps to protect themselves from contracting CTE. However, they become powerless when the surface turns into their greatest foe.
Aaron Rodgers‘s Achilles tear is still fresh in everyone’s memory, and the ‘turf monster’s reign of terror remained intact even after that. Jacobs became its most recent victim last Sunday.
A Giants defender pushed Jacobs out of bounds while the Pro Bowler rushed full speed near the touchline. He skidded to a stop, but not before scraping his knee across the turf. Despite briefly returning to the game in the second quarter, the Packers coaching team sent him to an early shower.

Five days removed from the ill-fated moment, Jacobs called out the challenges of playing on the hard MetLife Stadium turf.
Definitely the worst. It’s always been the worst. I know if I ever play there again, I will never talk about it, because I talked about it all week, how bad it was, and it bit me in the (expletive).

Jacobs logged 7 carries for 40 yards before the injury. Emanuel Wilson replaced Jacobs as the main rusher and racked up 11 carries for 40 yards and 1 rushing score. The Packers won 27-20.
Quarterback Jordan Love threw 13 completions from 24 pass attempts for 174 yards and 2 passing touchdowns. Backup Malik Willis played few snaps and bagged a touchdown. Wide receiver Christian Watson scored 2 touchdowns from 4 receptions.
Jameis Winston debuted for the Giants in this game, replacing rookie Jaxson Dart, who is on the concussion protocol. Winston threw 19 completions for 201 yards and 1 late interception.
Will Josh Jacobs play in Week 12 for the Packers?
In the post-game press conference, head coach Matt LaFleur gave positive and negative update on Jacobs’ injury. LaFleur reassured that the 27-year-old won’t go on the injured reserve list, however, he suffered a knee contusion.

The medical team worked extra hard to keep the swelling in his knee under control.
It’s just more or less trying to get the swelling down. Unfortunately, that’s a pretty hard surface over there, and sometimes (that’s) the byproduct of that.

On Friday, Schneidman tweeted that the swelling had gone down and Jacobs’ status is day to day. He is itching to return for the Sunday’s big NFC North showdown against the Minnesota Vikings.
Josh Jacobs says 60% of his knee swelling is gone. Now about getting range of motion back. Said he’s truly day-to-day and wants to play Sunday. Got hurt on second play of game and left in second quarter when he felt he was hurting the team.

Jacobs’ status for the moment remains unclear. Packers fans have to wait until the gameday to find out whether he plays or not.
Following a five year stint with the Raiders, Jacobs signed a four-year, $48 million contract with the Packers ahead of the 2024 season. In his debut campaign, he racked up 301 carries for 1329 yards and 15 rushing touchdowns. So far this year, he has logged 169 carries for 648 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns from 10 starts.
