Superstar running back Josh Jacobs was a championship winner in college with Alabama. He came into the league with that mindset and started dominating immediately. But despite producing three 1000+ yards seasons, the Las Vegas Raiders only made the playoffs once. That forced him to move to the Green Bay Packers.
Recently, Jacobs was invited to be a guest on the podcast, Green Light with Chris Long. There he revealed why he chose to leave the team that drafted him.
That went into me leaving. Coming from Alabama, I went to a championship every year I was there. I remember coming to the league and losing my first game, and I was mad and not talking to nobody. A vet came up to me and was like, 'This is the NFL. You're going to lose.' I'm like, 'So y'all cool with losing?' It was so different. You want me to come back on a discount and lose? I don't know how I feel about that.Josh Jacobs said
Jacobs was clear that he did not want to continue losing. His decision to join the Packers was because he knew they will win going forward.
In the years Josh Jacobs was with the Las Vegas Raiders, he has seen nothing but losing and turmoil. He has seen three head coaches (including interim coaches) change in five years and only delivered one playoff game.
Therefore, if he had to take a discount on his salary demands, he might as well move to a team that can at least win games. That brought him to the Green Bay Packers on a four-year contract that screams discount.
Josh Jacobs and Green Bay Packers are expected to contend for Super Bowls
The Packers are a different culture altogether. They have a basic expectation of making it to the playoffs every year. A Super Bowl is the ultimate goal, but as every other franchise in the league knows, it takes a collective effort to achieve it. Jacobs is the latest piece to join that collective unit.
He is three years younger than outgoing superstar running back Aaron Jones. But more importantly, has the ability to pound the different defensive levels while using his better than average elusive ability. That will help the Packers bring a different approach with Jordan Love behind center as defenses will have to guess which way Jacobs will go.
With their other pieces in, the Green Bay Packers are trending upwards. Maybe in a season or two, they should be ready to contend for Super Bowls, which also happens to be Josh Jacobs’ ultimate goal.
