Irrespective of whatsoever the consequence of the game is going to be, West Indies put up quite a show in their first innings that saw them securing an important lead against the formidable attack of the hosts England. After Kavem Hodge‘s early century, Joshua da Silva stayed unbeaten for a gritty 82 from just 122 balls while he had support from Shamar Joseph in the final partnership as the latter totted up a breezy 33 from just 27.
En route to the rampaging final partnership, Joseph blasted a meaty strike that hurled onto the tiles of the roof as a result of a full-blown maximum. It was in the 107th over where Gus Atkinson was bowling and Jospeh was not going to hold back, considering the context of the game.
With the tiles shattered, there was a good banter which was exchanged between Da Silva and Joseph, the result of which was witnessed by the reporters who were present in the post-day media conference. The Caribbean wicket-keeper lauded Joseph for his excellent contribution while concluding the interview on a note of humor, stating, ‘He will have to pay for it since he broke the roof.’
It was an incredible partnership between Joshua da Silva and Shamar Joseph for the final wicket which saw West Indies pile up 457 from 386/9. Da Silva stayed unbeaten for 82 while Joseph continued the charge on an aggressive note to propel the visitors to a significant lead.
A glance at Shamar Joseph’s international career so far
Shamar Joseph has so far had a career to savour despite being fairly new to the international circuit. He started his journey with a battle against Australia and registered his fifer straightaway. He was also instrumental with the bat blasting 36 in the first innings.
However, he saved his best for the second game of the series where West Indies collided with Australia in Gabba and Joseph, despite being hammered by a toe-crushing yorker from Mitchell Starc, played the last day with a fractured toe, and went onto claim seven wickets to breach Gabba emphatically. Since then, Joseph has been a reckoning force for the Islanders and continues to lead the charge.
