Team India entered into the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 with a lot of expectations after winning all the games in the ODI World Cup 2023 until the final where they painfully lost against Australia. In this T20 World Cup 2024, they have lived up to the expectations so far, as they have qualified for the semifinals unbeaten. They won all the three games in the Super 8 against Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia dominantly and hence, they finished at the top of their Super 8 group.

In this World Cup India are playing all their games in the local day time. Former opposition players have raised their questions of ICC favoring India in the T20 World Cup 2024 and giving an undue advantage to India.

Senior sports journalist Joy Bhattacharjya cleared the air behind all these rumors. He stated that the ICC knows that the Indian games bring the most revenues and hence have scheduled their games in the day so that the viewers in India can watch the games live back in India on their prime time i.e 8 PM IST.

The BCCI gets around 39% of the revenue distributed by the ICC and would comfortably generate much much more than that of ICC's income. Fixed venues for qualifying teams regardless of position has been around since 1987 and 1992 when Aus and NZ were assured of playing at home wherever they ended in the round robin stage.

Even Michael Vaughan and Adam Gilchrist have raised questions of ICC favouring India and shifting their matches to day game venues, saying that the BCCI might have instructed the ICC and hence they are favoring them.

India were placed in Group 1 in the Super 8 stage. It was decided that the winner of the Group 1 will play the second-placed team in the Group 2 in Trinidad in the first semifinal, which was a night game.

However, as India finished first in Group 1, they were destined to play in a day game in the second semifinal in Guyana due to the already decided pre seeding. Hence, South Africa clashed against Afghanistan in Trinidad and India played against England in Guyana.

The weather in Guyana for the second semifinal is very bad with a washout very much possible. ICC has not given a reserve day for this game and instead have allowed 240 minutes of extra time to finish off the game. However, if 10 over per side is not possible, then India will go to the final courtesy of topping their group.
