Ever since Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese battled in the 2023 NCAA National Championship game, they have become the two most popular women’s athletes across all sports. The duo has since been pegged as rivals as they continue to battle it out in the WNBA.

When the Indiana Fever superstar came into the league, there were increasing levels of dissent among her peers and former players who believed she had not done anything to warrant the unreal amount of attention she was garnering.

Soon, Reese threw her hat into the ring after she claimed the sudden surge in popularity in women’s basketball had her fingerprints on it as much as her so-called rival. Even though many instances proved otherwise, FS1’s Joy Taylor agrees with the opinion of the Chicago Sky forward.

We would not be talking about Caitlin Clark the way that we do if it wasn’t for that moment with Angel Reese. And I would die on this hill.

Joy Taylor said

The moment the host of Speak on FS1 said this, the cast of Joe Budden‘s podcast instantly disagreed. They were shaking their heads in disapproval as Taylor continued to hold her ground. She prefaced this argument by suggesting that many are making Reese the villain in Caitlin Clark‘s story.

That gave Joy Taylor proof that without the LSU star’s taunt in that 2023 championship game, fans would not be rallying around the Iowa superstar as much. She believes that the incident poured gasoline into a fire that Clark lit with her performances.

Fans lose their minds listening to Joy Taylor credit Angel Reese for Caitlin Clark’s fame

Basketball fans watching the latest episode of Joe Budden’s Podcast were left stunned by Joy Taylor‘s claim. They believe she was not aware of the fact that Clark was already extremely famous. Rather, by taunting and positioning herself as the rival, Reese brought herself into the conversation.

If not for that taunt, fans believe the LSU star would be just another women’s basketball player. She would not have the millions of followers or major endorsement deals she is enjoying now. They believe this take is uninformed and speaks of the lack of understanding certain analysts have of reality. Check out examples of such reactions below:

Over the past few years, quite a few analysts have come under fire for opining about subjects they do not fully understand. Either they are speaking on the basis of personal bias, or they have other intentions in mind. Fans believe this is just hampering the sport, rather than uplifting it.

Angel Reese’ has heartfelt reaction to young girl crying after getting Sky tickets

Whatever the narratives some try to create, there is no doubt that Angel Reese is one of the most popular women’s athletes in sports. A major part of that popularity is young children who look up to the Chicago Sky forward as inspiration.

You have such a beautiful daughter! I hope I get to meet her one day!

This was the 23-year-old’s response to a mother who posted a video of her young daughter’s reaction on receiving a Reese’s Chicago Sky jersey, as well as tickets to a game on July 24th against the Seattle Storm. The young girl was first stunned by the No. 5 jersey.

Then, the tickets brought out tears, as she was finally going to get the chance to watch her favorite player on the court. If Reese does the same as Caitlin Clark did for a young Fever fan, there is a chance the girl in this video will be able to meet her idol.
